I use a K&N filter with the hex cap on the end.

Nice...until you twist the nut off. Don't use the nut to tighten the filter because sure as shootin' you will overdo it. Snug it up by hand only!! Dutchy

I never tighten them with the nut -- only to take them off.

FWIW, if I ever strip a filter or know it's wrench isn't going to take it off... I just suck it up, drill a hole and use a thick philips through the filter and start turning.

I see folks bickering with trying to get them off, spending upwards of an hour trying to get one off. I look at it, if it don't come off in the first or second try, only way is to punch a hole. I don't have time to be messing around, lol.

I bought a 2 finger oil filter gizmo at NAPA in about 2004. It works well on the oil filters on the JDs I've owned. None of them have had hardly any room to use a strap or chain wrench. The finger one just slips over the filter and self tightens itself when you place a socket or socket extension into the rectangular hole on the top.

Use it now for the oil filters on the Mazdas where the Japanese foolishly still place them underneath.

I just take a Phillips screwdriver and a hammer and punch a hole through the filter and lever it off with the screwdriver. It's junk anyway and the holes let it drain.

Problem solved.
