Ok I have a Yanmar 2000 and was looking for oil filters. I noticed on Hoyes Tractor web site that it states

"Shop notes:
There is much more to a filter than thread size. We see a lot of customers come in with engine problems caused by the wrong filter. Did you know that one of the common filters that people are using has a filter material that is too fine & almost all of the oil bleeds through the bypass valve - NOT GETTING FILTERED AT ALL!!" Are they the only place with the "right" filters?

Anyone know what this "common filter" is that they are speaking of or any filters to NOT use? Also does anybody have the Wix oil/air filter number for a 2000?

Napa # 1064 is a wix

I thought that warning applied to screw-on hydraulic filters, (not used on YM2000) where the similar oil filter is not suitable.

If Amsoil doesn't make an EA filter for it (the true best, only needing to be changed every 25,000 miles or one year), then I only buy Wix. The best of the conventional filters.

No. That quote came off of their oil filter page

Hi Newt419,

I just received a 3 pack of oil filters from Hoye Tractor Parts. I am very pleased with them and will now only consider other brands in an emergency.

When using NAPA (WIX) Oil Filters I noticed a major problem that concerned me. With engine warmed up, and idled at low RPM's the Oil Warning light would light up. Now with the proper oil filter installed it does not light up at low RPM's. Meaning I still have safe Oil pressure at low RPM's when engine is warmed up.

Hope that helps you make a decision.

I've used Wix for the entire time I've had my tractors and never had an issue. I change my oil and filter once a season.

I bought Hoyes filters myself. But i am just wondering these same tractors were sold in the US in the 80s and im sure that the filter manufactures speced a say Wix filter for them. Or is it one of those things that Wix just said it fit so use it?
