This is all very interesting. I've always been big in changing my oil and filter routinely in my vehicles and equipment. But this is the first time I've been intrigued by the discussion on the length of the filters. I have been using the longer filters that Hoye has and I am still using Dino oil. My plan was to change to synthetic before this winter.

well. I had only used the filters that fredricks sold me. Never knew there was a longer length filter until I started searching and found the napa number. Have used it ever since, until my friend was going to throw away a few filters he didn't know what they fit. I took them and found the number I posted fit my tractor also.

I only change the oil in this tractor once a year ,so I have about 3-4 more yrs before I run out of these filters, my tractor runs out of life, or I run out of life

So did you know the old standby ford FL1A form motorcraft and the fl400 (or whatever the motor craft prefix is?) both fit? OR that the chevy filter, not the big one that all the old trucks use but the one from say the 80s and 90s s10 and many cars there are 2 that fit a long and a short? the 2wd old s10s took the long and the 4wd took the short because of clearance issues and remote locations?

There are so many applications like this that cross over.

I use a purorlator 10241 (or a cross over to other brand of this number) on my briggs and kholer lawnmowers, screw buying the $7 or $10 lawnmower filters even generics are 2x the price of auto ones! Many in the lawn business do the same thing and many small engine guys on forums do. I actually think that filter fits these yanmars as its the filter I was referring to that fits saturns and Toyotas.

Yes the Chevy S10 is among the Japanese 'cars' that use the universal filter. S10 4 cylinder was the same engine as my Isuzu Trooper - which I found when cross-referencing that it took the same filter as my Honda and Subaru. At the time I only needed that one filter for everything I did my own oil changes on.

Don't bother. It will be fine on Dino oil which it was originally design on and once a year filter and oil :thumbsup:

Might want to check out Delo 15-40 instead, it is an amazing dino oil. I always used to run Rotella in my big rigs & diesel pick ups, & my dad ran Delo 400. After a 3406B Cat of his was opened up after well over 1 million miles and still looked new inside I was sold. I now use Delo in all my diesel engines & a 4.0 Jeep (flat tappet engine). Delo also seems to reduce leaking/seeping compared to Rotella.

Great tip on the Ford FL1A filter Clemsonfor! That's the same filter I use on my 4.0 Jeep, it's a little longer than oem, but is a good filter & inexpensive!

Yep I use to use rotella, but saw some oil analysis somewhere and Dello is a better oil or at least the test results of the oil analysis showed that and I have heard some folks say that. I run it as well in all the small air cooled stuff, the ATV and my tractor.

I use to know ( bit I have since forgotten them) a few more of the oil crossovers and numbers for the common stuff off the top of my head, because I use to work in a parts store. Back in the early 00s I knew most of the common vehicles of that era and the 90s off the top of my head. SO when someone came in wanting an oil filer I could just walk to the shelf to pull it. They were always amazed that I walked right to it and pulled it. Would as "are you sure" I said yes, they would ask how I knew, my answer was that I work In a parts store!!! I do this all day all the time. SOme did not accept that and I would go look it up for them to show them. Sometimes if they wanted say and AC Delco filter I had to look some of them up because we did not sell many of those brand filters and their numbers I think were unique to their line at least in our store we did not have a matching other brand.

There is really only like 10 common filters used on that huge wall of filters at auto parts stores. We would get totes of filters in each week. There was like 5 sizes that made up the majority of the filters we got in and then some random others to complete the whole list. The major ones like the Honda and Toyota filters we got cases of. The big chevy and ford filters we would get a half a dozen or so each a week and then a few of the short fat dodge filter etc. Ok enough rambeling.

If I'm not mistaken, that FL1A filter is the same as a Fram PH8
I had no idea these would fit our tractors. I'll try one next year ! LOL

Ph8a and fl1a are same filter. And NO they won't fit our tractors? Did I say that? If I did or someone assumed that from my ramblings I am sorry!! Haha

Yep I swear by Delo 400, it was ahead of it's competitors years and years ago.
