Anyone know of a suitable replacement oil filter/Air filter for my Yanmar 2310 2 WD? I hear Wix/NAPA is good but Fram is not. It is time to change the oil and do other maintenance while it is cold outside.

THanks

Don't take this the wrong way,but if you use the search feature you will probably find what you need. It has been discussed several times before. If you don't find it repost and someone will be glad to go over it with you.

I did this before I posted and found mention of a Fram 3593A which also had a few posts recommending not to use this manufacturer. I was hoping someone had already done the research at a NAPA store.

I've used all you've mentioned and then some... and by changing every 3000-5000 miles, or every couple hundred hours... honestly, I've never found any major differences in such a short time span of useage... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

...a Fram just came off my Deere and was replaced by a Purolator... and a Honda OEM filter recently came off the wife's Honda and was replaced by a Fram...

So all-in-all over the thousands of hours and ten's of thousands of miles... it could have been a "coin-toss"... but never once a problem not only with Fram... but no problems with any filter... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Here you go Dennis, NAPA oil 1568,air 6262,fuel 3263. The 1334 and 1344 oil will also fit.

John, my experience has been the same as yours. Having grown up in the service station and auto parts business, I've sold (and used) Wix, Fram, AC, Purolator, Baldwin, and other filters; never had any filter related problem with any of my own equipment and never had a customer complaint.

I agree guys, this ain't rocket science, this is tractorin', and as far as I'm concerned, a "will fit" filter is good enough as long as it's changed in a timely manner. I've had about a dozen vehicles, only one tractor, and never noticed what brand of filter I used, but never, ever had a filter problem.

I put 265,000 miles on my Honda with strictly Fram PH3593 oil filters every 5,000 miles, and it never burned a drop of oil or had any engine problems...

I'd venture to say... that Honda would do that if the filters were made of just toilet paper... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Using the search feature to find the proper filters for your tractor is an exercise in futility unless you just happen to own a specific model tractor. Because I have seen the apparent irritation shown when one asks about specific tractors, I have tried to use this feature but with little success. One filter mentioned frequently is the NAPA 1334 which seems to fit a lot of the smaller engines but that gives me no confirmation that it will specifically fit mine.

I have manuals purchased from Len Schaffer, but they are for a "close matched US model" YM226. My tractor is a 1610. Not the same engine though they may be close. I have searched these manuals till my eyes blurred but cannot find a spec page that lists even the Yanmar numbers from which I could then cross reference. Every reference to the filters, (oil, fuel, air) only states to "replace with a genuine YANMAR filter element"

The oil filter on my tractor is painted yanmar grey so no numbers are available to read.

I read frequently about a cross reference post that was on the "old yahoo board" but no one seems to be able to find it.

I apologize for the rant but this has been a frustrating pursuit so far.

Most of the Filters are similar in filtering ability. There are several qualities of filter out there. Off-brand (such as Mobil that are used at the oil change places), name brand such as Fram, Wix, Purolaor, etc., and premium filtures made by the brand name purveyors (pure one and others). As long as the oil is relatively clean and changed reularly, it probably makes little difference which you use. On the other hand, if you change the filter and oil only once a season or twice and use the machine heavily or in dusty contitions, then it might make a difference. Probably how long an engine lasts depends on structural concerns such as how the metals are made, how regularly it is used, maintenance comes in third if it is done reularly, or first if not. Finally the quality of the fuel probably makes a difference.

With millions of auto engines made, it is not surprising to see some that last nearly forever with rebular maintenance and some that even with regular maintenance last 60-80,000 miles. There will be a statistical spread.

Maintenance works only if you do it. Long lay ups are bad for equipment. This can be minimized with proper pre-lay up procedures.

Norm,

Thank you for the search you did on my behalf. It does work and gives me the info I have been looking for.

I was not familiar with the Yahoo groups site so had not been there. I did spend much much more than five minutes on my own search with no success.

I apologize if I sounded like I was whining./w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

I've worked at several factories one of which manufactured OEM water pumps. The sister factory to this is nearby and manufactures filters. At the pump factory alot of change-overs consist of changing the box. The pump is the same and shipped to major suppliers with their labels. I've not personally worked at the filter factory (yet) but I know several that do. I'm sure the same applies. We also have a large manufacturer of stain that I've worked at years ago. 2 yes 2 stains on the shelf with different names of colors are the same stain. Changeover consists of changing the label on the cans. All this means is that some of the names of product mentioned above I know come from the same (real) manufacturer. Some parts are/maybe changed but the quality is the same. I only worry about some products made outside the US. I have worked overseas too.

Napa and Carquest oil filters are made by Wix. The STP and the Wal-Mart SuperTech filters appear to be the same. Both have Champion Labratories, Inc. on the box and are made in the US.

Gary,
If you don't have a parts manual for the YM1610, I would highly recommend you get one. I have parts manuals for YM1110, YM1301, YM1510, YM1702, F13, F14, and F15. All list the oil filter with a Yanmar part number. If you have that part number, you can go to the Wix oil filter web site and do a cross reference. By the way, all of the above tractors use the same Yanmar part number for the filter: 124450-35100. This crosses to a couple of Wix filters including the 51064 and 51568 (Napa 1064 and 1568).
