Tractor
Iseki TE 4270
I have a Kubota 12hp B6000 circa 1984 which I bought as a grey import 2 yrs ago. The dealer at the time told me the tractors were split and shipped to UK in crates where they reassembled and checked them over.
Tractor runs great for something so small. However, with purchase of 30hp Iseki last year, Kubota has been laid up for past 6mths or so. Recently I have noticed a slight oil leak at the junction of the rear driveshaft bell housing and the rear transmission / differential unit. This is where the tractor has been split on each side, as there is evidence of Loctite "instant gasket" on mating faces.

Can anyone advise if the driveshaft has enough lateral movement for me to release the bellhousing, sufficient to clean off and apply fresh gasket compound, or will I have to lift out differential and driveshaft complete to seperate.

If I can I will take photograph and post tomorrow

Photo of junction from above.
You can see oil staining on bolt heads and casing

View from rear. Dry to the rear. But gives better close up of mating surface between brake housing and main transmission body.

Also in the photo is the mounting of the factory tiller. This bolts on with 4 bolts direct to the transmission over the PTO.
This is one of the counter rotating PTO's mentioned in previous posts.

I don't know much about the B6000 Voodoo so my comments may be out to lunch, but here goes anyway. If the leak is as small as you indicate, then why bother doing anyting about it? I know, I can't stand something not right either, but sometimes the fix just isn't worth it. Second, why is there oil there is the first place? Have you got a leaking engine seal or leaking differential seal. If there shouldn't be oil there, then just putting some more sealant between the mating faces isn't going to solve the problem, in fact it may lead to more substantial problems.

Howard,

Leaked probably from day one, but I would agree, was never of any significance, just showed as soakage in any mud that got caked in the general area. I have had this baby pull through mud where the belly was cutting a furrow and still pulled through. Those tires are known as "rice tires" they have very agressive bars and will dig a hole if you could hold it back.
My father-in-law used to be a tractor agent, selling Masseys and Kubotas in the 70's and early 80's. He always said that the Kobota could climb slopes a mountain goat would give up on. My experience agrees. I nearly always give up before 'bota does.

As I said it has been laid up for past 6 mths and now there is a slight pool of oil showing on workshop floor.

The oil which is leaking is combined transmission and hydraulic fluid. Wet brakes also at this point.
Really only considering fixing as with Iseki doing all the work now, I will probably sell it on now this spring.
Then again, young son is becoming mighty interested in tractoring. Could be a good vehicle to start his "education"

Ya know, this job is a piece of cake, and would save you money in the long run. If you pull the wheel and hub,
remove the brake rod, and the case bolts you can replace that entire gasket in well under an hour. If I'm not
mistaken, the grey market case gasket will match with the current case gasket. I don't think you even have
to pull the brake drum. Remeber now, the case bolts on the bottom, are through bolts, they are not enclosed,
they are actually in the oil, so it you are only leaking around the bolts, you may need to just snug them up a tad.
Very easy tractor to service. They still may have PTO reverser kits available for it also, if you have other implements
you would like to run on the unit.

Larry,
Thanks for the info. I figured it could be pulled easily from looking. Just wanted to be sure.
You mention the current case gasket. Is this available for a more recent model. Mine is old!!
I had a fuel pump failure last year and it was all the local dealer could do to source a new one. Ended up using one from Kubota Front mounted mower (can't remember model), but was interchangable.
Any idea of part No's etc?
