The other day I noticed a quarter sized area of oil under my TC24DA. It is dripping right from the rubber boot where the front universal joint is. On closer inspection it seems to be coming out of the hole on the bell housing area where it looks like the is a head of a cotter pin sticking out. So after looking at the service manual, it seems that I may have a rear main seal going on the engine. The oil level in the engine has dropped a good bit in the past couple of weeks.

Here is a pic from the service manual that I used windows paint to circle in red where the oil is coming from. Also here is a pic of the dipstick showing how low the oil has dropped in the past couple of weeks since I have noticed the leak.

I have about 540 hours on the clock.

So I guess I'll keep monitoring the oil level. If I do have to split, then I'll wait till early spring as I need the tractor to plow snow, haul firewood, etc.

TCBOOMER had a couple of post about splitting his TC24DA. You still here?

For a drip the size of a quarter, don't think I would go to all the trouble of a split. I guess you never owned a Harley..... :p

It only takes a little oil to make a big mess. Thats a pretty tiny mess. My two cents : I'd keep an eye on it, but i couldn't think about splitting the tractor over a drip that small. Of course....... my first tractor splitting didn't go so well.

My panic level would be determined solely by the amount of warranty left, (if any).

A quarter sized spot is pretty small. But they aren't supposed to leak at all, and if you can get it fixed on someone else's dime, you should.

If it were my dime, it would have to get a whole lot worse before I'd split it. But if you have warranty left, that's hardly a response your dealer can afford to give you.

You guys make some ood points. I think I'll keep an eye on it for now....no sense in making a little problem a big one.

BTW, it out of warranty!

People with Gen 1 Ford Lightnings would call that little spot "Marking its Territory".
