oil leak in YM 180D

I have an oil leak in a little "hole" that is on top of the engine just forward of the bracket that holds the fuel reservoir for the Thermostart system. There is another one on the top of the engine near the rear. The rear "hole" leaks a little, but the one on the front leaks significantly. What is this and how do I stop this leak? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you post a pic? is there a bolt missing from these holes?
Could this be a valve cover gasket or the "o" rings around the cover attaching bolts leaking?

GaDawg,

Just from your description; it sounds like the bolt holes for the valve cover. Do the nuts have a rounded top (not open all the way through)? I call them acorn nuts.

I have a 1700 and it is set up that way.

I took a couple of pictures, but they were too high in resolution, so the site wouldn't accept them. I'll try again this week-end.
I don't see any threads that indicated this could be a bolt hole. It's very shallow. I stuck an awl in and it was hard (metal). They are on top of the valve cover and too small to be valve cover bolt holes.

I know what holes youre referring to.
I just filled them back up with JB weld and the problem was solved.
All yanmars have those on the valve covers, I dont know what they are for, but sometimes they leak a little oil.
