Here's what the surgery looks like just before the new parts get installed. I think parts were about $100, fluid was about $300 and the rest is lots of labor. You can see a hole where a shaft has been removed in the bottom of the open round casing. That's where the notorious seal is that often leaks.

You are right!! That's what they mean when they say they have to "split" the tractor. Lucky that in this case, the split allowed the cab to stay on.

So when you split it, what else should be done? Clutch, throw-out bearing, etc? In a boat when you pull the tranny, you usually do the damper plate cause of the PITA to do it again!

You're probably going to get a lot of opinions on this one . . .

In my case, they didn't recommend doing anything else. They said the known failure point was indeed what was leaking and they really don't experience other failures right here. They replaced a suction tube that was observed to be split but that was external. Otherwise just installed the upgrade parts to resolve the FWD shaft seal leak.

Big difference compared to replacing the clutch in a Ford 850 back in the day. Don’t know if I could or would try to split modern tractor. Major mechanical skills required. Certainly worth $175/hr shop time if you can do the work.

Had Kubota spilt a tractor to repair. Nightmare getting dealer to fix problems from the split. They had to re-split to restore fwd selector. Doing it yourself least you know it is done right.
