Oil pan cracked

Thanks for all the replys. Guess i had a brainfart on the welding. I was thinking someone could just weld it without removing it. Stupid to take it off and not just replace it. I wanted to just replace the pan but was thinking i would have to pull the motor because of the shaft and dont have the tools to do that right now. So i am going to try the steps LUC suggested to remove the shaft and if i can get it off will go that route. Will update in the next day or so if i get it off. Have dial-up at the house and have to go to town to get online. Thanks again for all ur help.

As long as you're vigilant I don't see what you've got to lose with this approach. Even if you drain the pan, though, how do you get a hole/crack like this completely clean and oil free for the epoxy to bond?

Drained the oil, then jacked the tractor up some to make sure none would weep out...you know how oil is. Preped the surface with sand paper, carburetor/choke cleaner, cleaned again and applied the Marine Tex.

We used the same stuff on our pontoon boat too.

Was looking at my manual for the L3130 and it tells how to remove the front drive shaft.

After removing the screws on the propeller shaft cover on the lower side by the oil pan, you can slide the covers over and expose the splined couplers for the drive shaft. They are held in place by a round spring pin and need to be driven out with a punch. The couplers then can slide down the shaft and after it collapses it with the covers can be removed.

The L4400 should be similar. Hopefully then you can drop the pan from there if not this step needs to be done if splitting tractor anyway.
