Oil Press Light Out = No Start !!

just a thought

Did you check to see if the 2 wires under your platform some how got disconnected --this happened to me and cause the PTO light to come on and no start.
I found it right away due to clearing a branch knock the wire out --reconnected she started right up.

Jim,

Busy last few days so could'nt get back to my Dynamo Hummmm. Off today so will see what I can test. Hopefully those safety switches just pull off without too much trouble or I might end up bypassing some of them.

johnnylight,

Will check for any loose / disconnected wires although last time I was under the tractor did not notice anything.

Thanks to both of you for responding.

OK.....found range selector lever safety switch. Pulled rubber boot off & jumpered terminals. Tried to start but nothing. This time however, I heard a buzzing sound when I turned the ignition switch all the way over. Tried it 3 times with the same sound. The fourth try & the beast fired right up. I let the tractor run for about 20 minutes just to recharge the battery a little. While it was running I disconnected the jumper on the safety switch. Turned it off & figured that was it.....probably won't start again. But low & behold (gosh golly gee) she fired right up again. Tried it three more times & ignition each time.

HOWEVER, now each time I turn the ignition switch half way just prior to starting I hear a distinct CLICK. Sounds like it is coming from solenoid. Do you guys think my Solenoid is on it's last legs ??

dave,

Just went out again to see if I could pin point source of sound. It does SEEM to be louder by the ignition switch....hard to tell.

What is really strange about all this is the timing of events. All the following occur at the same time.

- Fuse #2 blows.
- Oil Pressure switch or light fails. (On a separate circuit, fuse #4)
- Now I am getting a clicking sound which may be the solenoid or the igntion switch.

Coincidence ?

Kozak,

It strange after moving your wires around unplugging reconnecting --she started up again makes you think wires are expose either grounding or rubbing on each other causing fuses to blow.

time to check the wires again maybe some critters, field mice trying to make a home.

It sure sounds like the same starter/solenoid/ignition switch issue my tractor has from time-o-time. I think fuse #2 is related in an indirect way because mine was also blowing until I replaced it with a circuit breaker. Recently, my starter hung and I gave it a good rap in the area of the solenoid and it immediately started and has not repeated the hanging routine the last 4 or 5 times I've used it.

Before replacing the fuse with a cb, the starter would sometimes hang after the engine warmed up (and transferred heat to the starter). That's when fuse #2 would blow. I'm pretty sure they were interrelated. However, my oil pressure warning light continues to function as it always has. I think you just have a burned out bulb or loose connection. I would look at it as a coincidence.

Don't be surprised if your starter problems continue from time-to-time. You might try the "gentle" rap on the side of the starter the next time it happens.

johnnylight,

Interesting thought about the wires, would not have thought about that from the standpoint of monkeying around with the wires. Hopefully I don't have to go there....just a pain to follow those wire harnesses.

Jim,

The first time my Fuse #2 blew I replaced with another 7.5 amp just to see how long it would last. It lasted about two years....not bad. This time I replaced it with a 10 amp fuse so will see if I need to go with a CB.

Will try the "gentle" rap on the starter the next time I get "stubborn tractor syndrome" since obviously nothing has been solved.

Will now need to check my oil every time before I start my Tractor until I get that dash oil light working again.

Thanks Guys,

Vic

Did you check the bulb in oil light? Or see if you have power to the bulb? I would want to get the light working; you can have oil in the crankcase but without pressure you have junk.
