Re: Synthetic vs. Dino Oil
I can't figure out the value of synthetic oil if you are still changing it seasonally. They say synthetic is good for many more miles, but I can never get that kind of miles on my vehicles before a winter comes and goes. Condensation inside an engine is considerable where I live, so frequent oil changes using the convention and far less expensive oil that I have grown to trust seems to make more sense. Possibly if I was driving long haul for a living, then synthetics would be of value in my diesels. ymmv
If your engine specification calls for 5w-40 then I can see using Rotella synthetic because original Rotella T is only available in 10w-30 and 15w-40 in my experience.
2-stroke engines I only use full synthetic oils because you can safely mix them at ratios in the range of 80 or 100:1 and it burns very clean without much smoke or accumulation of deposits in the exhaust systems, as well as impacting the fuel octane rating less then oils mixed at 32 or 50:1
