Is ot okay to use a straight SAE 30 oil in a 2310? The weather here in Texas usually stays pretty hot. I have been reading about different oils and from what I have read SAE 30 is okay as long as the weather does not get too cold. Reason I ask is I bought this tractor used and the previous owner was using Chevron Delo 400 SAE 30 oil.

Thanks!

In my opinion, that SAE 30 Delo is OK, but personally, I used, and would recommend, the Delo 400 15W-40.

If you ask someone about which grade of oil to use or what brand is like asking a guy what salad dressing is the best. I use Rotella 15W/40 year round(not for salad dressing). The winters can get cold up here but I plug in the block heater 2 hours before I fire it up too and it usually runs all day long without turning it off. 30 weight is fine if that is what is was broke in on. Change it every 50 hours. Buy a good grade of oil and Chevron is good. A clean air filter, good oil filter, and a good grade of oil and when your tractor collapses into a pile of worn out iron, it won't be the engine that gave out first. - Clyde

I agree w/ Clyde. At one point in time we had Shell 15W40 in everything from tractors to p/u to lawnmowers, year round. This was also in vehicles/equipment bought used that we had no idea what was ran in it before. Never had a problem.
