That's what I mean. When I help my family do haying, we are talking about wide open flat fields and gear/hydro makes no difference. Mowing orchards and peoples' lawns are a different story... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Exactly. I like the infinite speed range for clipping around obstacles. HST and Gear both have their places! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Jinman

I have to agree. I don't care to start and stop when I'm landscaping bush. The more horsepower and hydraulic pressure, the better.

I love my hydro when I'm bushhogging the bank along the ditch/creek that runs through my property. I back the cutter down the bank and as the cutter starts to hit the bank on the other side or the tires start hitting the mushy bottem of the ditch I can change directions w/o hitting the brakes or looking at what I'm doing which allows me to watch the cutter come up the bank so I can keep it as low as possible. In a tractor the size of mine it is only available in hydro or 9X3, I don't thinking I would want to try to hold the brake, hit the clutch, shift gears, release the clutch w/o digging a hole and sinking and trying to raise/watch the cutter all at one time. For me the hyro really has worked out well. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Doc:

every landscaping bush made.

And I'd bet every last one is so placed to make for easy lawn maintenance.

( Hmm...when I'm cutting fields with a gear tractor, I just set the hand throttle, and rarely touch it after that - don't use the cluch or shifter, except sometimes on difficult corners. I would think that activity would be one of the least advantageous for HST.)

The whole point wasn't about the cruise setting, he was commenting about the overall operation of the tractor. I just told him about the cruise option so he wouldn't have to hold down the hydro pedal the whole time on long strips cause it does get tiring holding the pedal when your mowing 10 acres. And I'm not trying to bash folks with geared tranny's, I like them as well, I was just showing that everyone who might not prefer or care for the hydro's, like my cousin, had a different perspective after spending a little time on one. And yeah you do loose a little power when running in higher gears, who don't, in the first gear range of a hydro your not going to notice a whole lot of differnce or miss the 2 horses of extra power. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The hydros are very nice to drive around the tractor lot. It's like a big garden tractor and kind of fun to drive something different for a change.

Hi, my 2 cents. My had Has a 1959 MF (FE) 35, and a mF 12 hydro rider ( Now with a 16HP Kohler Magnum), recently lost the Hydro, and the 35 on the other hand , still going strong, after hundreds of acres thousands of times over. My point, I am a gear man all the way!! Love the 2 stage clutch!! I am lookin at buying a 1440v, It will be a gear model. Dont get me wrong, Hydro has its place, just not mine!!

See you guys

Hi,

when you say "cruise" you mean to say a hydro handle is not standard? OMG> My dads MF 12 only had a handle, ahead of its time I guess.

Do any of you guys have theos PATS QUICK COUPLERS? How are they, not only of quality, buy of strength and engineering? May buy a set!!

Thansk,

Will
