The only think I can think of is that he left it in gear, and it had a clutch arangement that you can lock the clutch 'out'.. and then the clutch kicked in and started the tractor going. A hand clutch tractor comes to mind. I can leave my JD-B in gear and push the clutch out.. If I don't push it all the way out, the detent doesn't lock in and the clutch can swing back in due to vibrations.. thus making the tractor start moving... That's why i like to take the sucker out of gear when i stop.. etc..
Still.. I agree.. I think he's running a line of BS to make himself look less stupid, and shift the blame to the machinery, instead of the thick headed operator, whose error it really was...
