If your level indicator is a rod in tube thing like is on my 410 loader, it helps to just cut the rod off level with the top of the tube when the bucket is dead level. I even painted the end of the rod white. Guess yellow would be better to match the JD color scheme. It would work, too. You can use the right/left on the joy stick with the FEL in float to adjust the level. Best to get it level before dropping it. However, it sometimes gets out of level on the way down.

Float's easy once you get the hang of it. We all got through the business of not hitting it and having the front wheels leave the ground until we learn the technique.

My dealer was useless on this stuff, too. He also didn't tell me how to work the glow plugs by turning the key all the way to "start" while leaving the range selector in gear for 1 to 2(in summer) to 3 to 4 seconds (in winter) before moving selector to "N" to start the engine. Hopefully the 2320 owner's manuals have this in them. Not the case with the 4010 owner's manual. Maybe the 2320s actually come with a glow plug light?

Ralph

Yeah Ralph, The 2320 does indeed come with a glow plug light now.:)

I do all my snow removal with a 4310 e-hydro/ 430 loader/ 73" snow bucket. The bucket level indicator that came on it is now hanging on the garage wall. I found it much easier to just watch the top of the bucket, which is, as was previously mentioned, parrallel with the bottom on JD buckets. Greg

In pushing snow, you may wish that you'd gotten a 2320 or 2520 instead. I was using my steering brakes on Thursday pushing that 3 1/2" we had. The front wheels don't steer too well on slick surfaces.

Steering brakes are what I used to steer my Gravely. The ones 12 hp and heavier are too heavy to steer with the handle bars, particularly on slopes.

Greg,
I bought the 73" bucket just for snow work, I was thinking about making a pusher box (those things you see in every big parking lot now, chained to a loader bucket) out of an old plow but figured the big bucket would be more versatile, works great but mine does not have a replaceable edge, does yours?
I find the bucket level indicator very helpful, of course you do have to make some adjustments due to varying conditions.

Here's some pics,

The only drawback to using the top of the bucket as your level, is when it is covered in snow and ice...the kind that won't even shake off.

Unit40, Two coats of automotive paste wax on the entire (inside and out) bucket keeps the snow from sticking on or in the bucket. This is the large, high volume (lighter duty) bucket that is only used in snow. The paint stays nice as it is undercover year round. I have a 61" heavy duty bucket for everything else. It is much easier to push a 61" as opposed to a 73" bucket into unbroken ground. I ordered both buckets with the tractor so the $800 snow bucket was financed favorably. Some may question the need for two buckets, but it greatly enhances the versitality of the loader. The quick attach is sweet.
JB4310, my buckets are like yours, and I'm sure you'll vouch for the value of different sized buckets, instead of the one-size-for-all compromise. No, the Hi Vol bucket did not come with a bolt-on cutting edge, but I did install one. Be advised, the integral (welded on) cutting edge on my bucket is harder than the hinges of heck!!! Using a heavy, slow turning, Millwakee magnetic base drillmotor, with plenty of cutting oil, I destroyed 2 cobalt bits per hole, a pilot and a 1/2". I quickly decided to only use every-other bolt hole!! Also, this bucket was painted black when it arrived at the dealer. Now even your wife will say a black bucket on a green tractor ain't right. So the brand-new bucket was reworked before it saw its first snowflake. I solid welded where it was stitch welded, put the cutting edge on, and sandblasted it. It was then bathed in JD Green. People think I'm a little simple, but that's my style. Greg.

Just another thought about cutting the end of the bucket level indicator rod. I had done that to my 440 loader on a 1070 tractor. It worked well for a while and was useful. Even painted the end of it with JD yellow. But over the years i realized that as the bucket/loader became looser and more sloppy, the indicator wasn't dead/on anymore. Add to that a new thicker edge that was welded on. Now I know it has to be a little bit lower than it should be.

Thank you for this post, I am a new owner of a 2320 in the fall of 2007 with a FEL, 54" D mower and 55 tiller. I hope to add a blower at some point but we don't have enough snow in southern Saskatchewan so far this winter to justify the cost. With this post I found out how to use the float feature on the FEL. I knew it would do it but never found anything in the manual on how to use it. Thanks guys.
