MY FAULT- picked up a Camaro front sub frame (including wheels&tires) with the fel, wood chipper on back, needed 4wd to move it. (front tires near flat)!

Drove 3/4 mi on gravel road, uphill to deliver to neighbors house, going up his driveway--clunk-clunk-clunk etc.

Makes no noise in 2wd, tried 4wd when I got home-same clunk-clunk etc.

Sounds to me like a semi-shelled rear end on a car.

Diagnostic suggestions anyone??? Where should I start looking?? GC2300 with 380hrs

I think you are right about shelling it. If you don't have a shop manual, I would suggest you getting one from your dealer before you start tearing it apart.

I would do a postmortem on the front differential. Chances are, it will be obvious.

Certainly sounds like you will be needing some gears. There are 7 possible suspects in the center section, and 3 on each end.

Good luck.

Agreed, sounds like the front diff. With the front tires nearly flat, the rolling diameter of those front tires were pretty small, since you left it in 4wd after you got it moving, the smaller front tires were trying to cover a greater distance than the rear tires for the entire trip. With all the load on the fronts, you really stressed the those front components. Putting it into 2wd once you got moving probably would have helped as well as removing some weight.

IMHO, 2 trips without breaking anything is far better than one trip breaking something.

But it's all repairable.

I wonder if the insurance [AGCO]covers something like that? plowking

I know when you finance thru AGCO,they want you to have their insurance to cover tractor during the loan. There was someone a while ago that had a hood damaged from rock, it was on a 2310, I think they said they paid a deductible and insurance fixed it. My neighbor bent the frame and damaged the rear axle housing on his a few years ago. The damage was 7000.00 dollars,he paid a 750 or 1000 dollar deductible to get it fixed. Damage was from stump or boulder. Newer 2310 have shields now. plowking

Oh ok. I did not know AGCO offered that. We got it covered with our contents insurance.

Thanks,
