I am looking to upgrade my 7510 to either a L3400 or L3240 and am surprised that my little 7510 has a solid linkage lever action PTO engagement versus the PTO cable setup that I see on both the L3400 and L3240.

At least while looking at both the L3400 and L3240 tractors at my dealer....they both appear to have the same type PTO cable, and handle.... but not sure if they differ at the actual PTO end.

It's not clear to me why Kubota can install a solid linkage lever for at least the 7510... but has decide to go with what appears to be a flimsy cable setup for the L series tractors?

I have had the sightglass replaced (it was leaking) , and the PTO cable replaced twice. The second PTO cable replacement also included the PTO cable bracket replaced with a new improved bracket. 159 hours on it. Mine does have the new improved PTO cams on it.

JC - no clue why Kubota went with these designs. It does sound like the over-running action of the old cam design was meant to take some of the shock out of the loading. The new design while more solid would appear to me to shock the system more than the old. Any thoughts on that?

canoetrpr,

I believe that over-running action of the old cam design has nothing to do with preventing the shock load. The over-running clutch will only prevent a rotary implement inertia to turn the pto shaft/ transmission in transmission driven pto like L-2800 with single clutch. in case of L-3400 with dual clutch system it would only allow the engine to turn the pto shaft and not the implement or basically pto shaft on the implement will freely spin before it comes to a stop. Even with the new cam design, same as the old one, the shock is distributed to the two ears or lugs (whatever they call it) 180 degrees apart. The noise associated with the pto clutch when all the guys talk about is when the clutch is slipping and kubota tried to muffle it by immersing the whole thing in oil.

Hi, if you lift the seat you can get to the pto lever and cable easier. with tractor shut off engage lever, as this will give more room to slide the rubber boot down and then you can spray some lube in the housing. after doing this I usually move the lever gack and forth to work the lube in. Once a week or so seems to keep all well. P.S. I use my pto a lot, and this had taken care of my problems completly. Hope this helps Dan

dieselram, Have you thought about buying the heavy duty top-link bracket? (70050-94875). It's made for the L2500 but "should fit" the L2800, I bought it for a little extra piece of mind (I can use all I can get). Not sure if your Woods subframe is 4 point or if it uses the top-link at all. I just wanted to beef up the top-link. ;) When I mount mine next week, I plan to take photos and such. I got it for $141 but the list is around $156 or so.

dwitcher, thanks for that info about flipping the seat up... it still amazes me how the obvious can still gets by me :D
