Wife and I are leaving this Saturday morning for Florida.. We'll probably mosey along after a two day visit with relatives in Lenoir NC.. Ultimate goal is we are delivering a new car to mother in law in Ft Lauderdale,, That's after a trip to MGM, Key west and other areas if we are allowed to..

"New England is nice this time of the year..... have you considered a visit to a place that is less hostile weather "

New England can be fantastic this time of year. I loved it back there about this time right into the begining of October. I'll take it over Florida anyday.

I am thinking of moving to Alaska. I can always build a fire to get warm and my food will keep just fine if I dig a hole to the permafrost.
But without power hot is hot no matter how big of a fire you build

Yes...but the mosquitoes can suck up to a pint of blood per day out of a moose. That's a pint per day out of every moose in the herd! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

My parents just got phone service back yesterday at their house which is 30-40 miles south of Don. I don't know if he said they had power back on or not.

Later,

My daughter in W. Palm has her phone back but no power yet. I think the utilities will be on a point to point basis. They are unable to give any estimate for her neighborhood and she says it is hot. There are lots of trees down and a fair amount of roof damage around her but she came out O.K. Her and everyone else are leaving their storm shutters up to see what Ivan does. I personally think it would be a great time for her to visit N. Georgia.

Thanks for asking. I'm still alive. Quick summary: lost much of our shingles. screen panels, some inside water damage, some other stuff. Since I had nothing else to do, I created some web pages that go into it in more detail. Horner family's hurricane frances . As usual for me, there's more detail on those pages than anyone really wants to know, but you can always just look at the pictures. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

We still have no electricity or internet service and the projection from the power company is that our neighborhood won't have it until Sunday, Sept. 19, 1t 11:45 PM -- that's 9 days from now (I'm writing this on Friday 9/10). We have friends who live only 7/10ths of a mile from us who have had power for 2 days and cable since yesterday, so I came to their house to send this and post the web site. Their wireless setup is the same as mine.

I'm going to look at a few of the other threads, just to get my TBN "fix", but it will likely be more than a week before I can check in again.

Thanks for all the good wishes from all my TBN friends.

Don,

Sure glad to hear that you made it O.K. through Frances with what sounds like minimal damage. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Now are you having to get ready to go through it all over again with Ivan?? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Don,
Thank God that you are safe. I know that you and other Florida members have been have been in our thoughts and prayers. And those thoughts and prayer will continue for all of those in danger from the next hurricane.
