Sorry.... 1958 Chevrolet Impala had 3 across the rear body panel at both sides. Tail lamp / backup lamp / tail lamp.

I stand corrected. Those details are kind of fuzzy, as it was way before I was born! :p

Chevrolet distinguished their models with the Biscayne and Bel Air models having two taillights on each side...

...and the Impala and Caprice models having three taillights on each side...

This lasted until the mid-1970's as the Biscayne and Bel Air models were dropped, and the Impala and Caprice models carried on with three per side into the 1990's.

Larry, are you from Nu Joisy? The cars came to me through a third party, who was a friend of my fathers. There never was a dealer sticker on the rear of the cars, so it might have originated at Potamkin. I do know that there was a lot of "horse trading" going on with these cars. Prior to the 1958 Chevrolet, there was a Yellow and Black 1957 Dodge convertible, that was as sweet a car as you will ever find. That is the car that I would love to have today.

Yes
I was born and raised in Boonton township... Even though Boonton township was west 40 miles from Newark area,, Potamkin was the largest Chevy dealer in Jersey and NYC at the time... I just made an assumption based on knowing who the largest chevy dealer was at the time.. A wild guess if you will.

You still have the 1950 Chevy?
I'll have to check it out some time when I'm in the neighborhood! ;)
Let me know! :)

I'd like to find a 1960's Studebaker to restore in the spring...

Here's a link to the South Bend Tribune Classified Ads webpage(South Bend, Indiana is the home of Studebaker). There are usually some Studes listed every week. No 60s models this week. Also, there is a Studebaker Driver's Club that hosts classified ads with lots of cars all the time. South Bend has a nice Studebaker National Museum, as well.

These are some photos of one of my old cars, it is a 1971 chevelle SS 454 4 speed with a chevy marine block bored 060 over, stroked .250 to 496 cubic inches. It has a solid roller cam, iron rect. port LS6 heads and 13.5.1 wisecoe pistons. Trans. is a borg and warner super T10, rearend is a 12 bolt with 4.30 gears and a detroit locker. When I restored the car, I removed the original LS5 365 horse 454 and muncie 4 speed because I wanted to run it hard, I still have original engine, trans, and cowl hood in my garage

My brother in law has a red one in his garage with a convertible. He spent over ten years doing a complete frame off rebuild. That's commitment!

This site is truly full of my kind of guys. Tractors and old sporty cars. What could be better?

Yesterday we buried the last of my uncles at the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery. He was 87 years old, would have been married 65 years in February, a veteran of both the army (prior to WWII) and navy (during WWII), the best professional carpenter I ever knew, and a good amateur mechanic who restored a 1926 Chrysler roadster in the early '50s. I don't believe it's been out of the garage in the last 40 years, but I suspect it will be for sale before long. And that's what I call an "old" car.

This is what I started with over 16 years ago, so I'm not that far out/crazy than your brother in law :)

I bought a new 1971 Chevelle convertible back then.
It was the color of a new copper penny.
Top was white and inside was brown.
Was a nice sharp car.
Paid $$3300.00 for it.

Bird..... sorry to hear of your family loss. At 86, I am certain that he lead a fulfilling and enriching life with family and friends. I know that he will be missed by all the friends and family that he has left behind.
