Old compresser tank disposal

/ Old compresser tank disposal #11
I give stuff like that to a used tool store downtown. He will take most anything since he usually has the related parts to make a salable complete unit. The only thing that might make it valueless is if it is past the re-certify date stamped on it.

Yesterday I got a free 1800 watt 4hp generator at a yard sale. They said it ran fine until it sucked up the crud in the bottom of the fuel tank. I found a couple tablespoons of bubbled hard tar in the tank plus massive rust. This week I'll take it to Tool Man since he probably has a similar B&S carb/fuel tank assembly to get it running. Does anyone want this, today 3/6 only? PM me. Zip code 95814.

I needed a tank like that a couple weeks ago But I finaly found one. The old tank rusted out. Now that I dont need one I find them all over the place Guess that is how it works /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'd toss it, if it was mine and it's old.
My neighbor farmer had an old tank blow up, and it did so when he thought he heard a leak and was just reaching under the tank to see if he could find where the leak was coming from. The tank blew and literally destroyed his hand. He spent months with the hand pinned together and being rehabilitated. Pretty ugly.
So, although I don't let my wife make such decisions for me, I would let the junkman have it.

Take it to a Goodwill store. I bet someone out there could use a good air tank.

now I like that idea!

If they take it, I'm done...if not, I'll carry it on to my dumpster at work (sigh, & lug it up over a 5' lip)

I hear ya, but I don't need, want, or care to take this off your hands. I was at an auction on Friday night and they had boxes of what appeared to be new mercury vapor bulbs. I was the high bidder at $5.00 a box. The auctioneer handed me one box and said how many more would you like. I started to look at the bulbs more closely, and realized that even though they were in the original packaging, that they were used. I handed them back to the auctioneer and told him that my bid was void since they were misrepresented. Since he knows me well, there was no problem. After the auction I told him that who ever sent them in for consignment just got rid of a big lot of hazardous waste. They came from an electrical supply house. My guess is that there must be a program to sell new and take back the old for recycling. Got paid to take them back and then pawned them off to the auction house. The auctioneer told me that he was going to put them in the truck and deliver them back to them on Monday morning. Like the bulbs......no thanks on your air tank.... Even the scrap yards will not take a tank any longer unless the ends are cut off and the tank is flattened. Then it is scrap iron. A whole tank is considered hazardous waste in this part of the country.

I'm with you Steve.
The last thing I had to get rid of that trash guys wouldn't take. I used the BH to crush it into a 3' X 2' flat piece of steel. Dug a 5' hole to bury it. Then filled it back in. Out of site out of mind, until this post. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
