old impliments contaminating the system?

I am getting a mower/conditioner ready for use. The impliment came with the property. I have no idea what treatement it has had prevously and dont trust any fluid that may be in it currently. I suspect it was run on a ollie 1850 but not sure.

any suggestions of whether im being over parinoid on my new tractors behalf or is there somthing I should do before hooking up the hydro lines? the bailer is 100% pto. thoug if i could only find a kicker for cheep

I would flush out the old implement. Fluid is cheap, the guts in your tractor -- not cheap.

I know a guy who rents a tractor to flush all of his new purchases. I don't agree with it, just know it happens.
I got a lift cylinder of unknown fluid condition. I went ahead and powered it up, using the fluid from my tractor. Then I blocked it up with a good jack, removed the hose, took the end off the hose in a 55 gallon drum and then released the jack so the weight compressed the cylinder. I got to see all of the contaminates of the cylinder. Mine was actually pretty clean, so I topped off the tractor and put it to work.

Ditto waht the others said.. not too hard to purge the cyl and represssurize it a few times.. If it is DA.. just do both sides, one at a time.

No.. you are not being over paranoid... The pumps on my tractor cost about 2 paychecks... and I got to eat during those 2 weeks.. thus.. i gotta keep the oil cean..
