old JD rotor cutter(bush hog)

I'm with Kenny on this one. Though the price for those bolts may seem high for "only two bolts" the fact that you can even get parts from JD for 30 + year old attachments is great. With most companies you would have been out of luck and buying a new cutter! Add in the fact that you can search, locate, price, and buy those parts from the comfort of your own home to boot and I think it's a heck of a deal!

Paul, I'm glad you found your parts and hope this gets you back out there and cutting!

I can understand that getting parts for a old piece of equipment is one thing, but if JD web site tells me the cost per set is $37.50 and the local stealler charged me $50 per set just to make a call,WTF?

I did pick up the bolts/nuts yesterday and they even charge me more.2 bolts and 2 nuts out the door was $113.77. Yes,I need them and I payed them, but I wasn't very happy! They didn't even do a reach around!:D

Thanks Guys, now only if the rain would stop!

OK, so your issue is with your dealer, NOT John Deere as a whole. When I order parts, I take a printout with me from JDParts so they cannot up-charge me like that-and they have only tried once.

FWIW its not limited to JD dealers. My local Kubota dealer charged me $30 'shipping' for wheel spacers they had in stock (and by the looks of them, had been "in stock" for quite some time). You have to do your best to keep your dealer honest....... too many are perfectly willing to charge you list price ++++++.:(

Got a chance yesterday to install the new blades.Of course the new bolts worked like they should of.I did run into a little problem with the blades themselfs. They were about 1/4" to long.So I had to drop the blade bar again and cut the blade tips off. After that,I had hit the back 40 to see if everything was blanced and it work great.I will have to finish cutting today that should take me around 6 hours and then I have to go to work tonight.

On a side note.Yes,my beef is with the local stealler, not JD themselfs. When I went into the stealler, they wanted to sell me a new cutter.I ask the guy that if you are charging me way over the cost for a couple bolts/nuts,what in the world would make him think that I would buy anythink new from them? He just kind of looked at me like I was nuts!Of course there were other people buying parts there and one guy ask me what is what and I told him.He wasn't happy when he had to pay his bill too!I guess it is a local stealler problem and I will contact JD about this.I don't expect anything to come of it though.

Thanks again for the help.

If the dealer is charging more than list price I would send a copy of the receipt along with a copy of the web page for the lesser amount to Deere. This all amounts to the dealer shooting himself in the foot. You went to school and learned alot from this for less than $100. I bet this will cost the dealer more than you in the long run. What is he going to lose on your next tractor or implement purchase?

Exactly... And what do you suppose fishfighter and the other guy standing in line are gonna say to the next person they run into that asks them a question about the local JD dealer??

What goes 'round comes 'round!

Wrong attitude IMHO. Try to find a part through another OEM for a very old piece of equipment that hasn't been made in who knows how many years...and be able to research it online through the same parts system the dealer uses. Those two bolts and nuts where far cheaper than a new rotary mower.

You got that right. My Brother has a Miller welder with a Onan engine that is shot (threw a rod). Well, it is only 10 years old or so and he can't get a replacement engine for it.

Also, those bolts are that expensive on the newer mowers. Atleast you didn't have to buy 6 like I did for my batwing. :)

It seems expensive until a blade flies off and kills somebody,

I take it you didn't buy the John Deere blades?

Darin,
You are full of such good news:confused:

I have a Miller Trailblazer about 10 to 11 years old with the 20 hp Onan engine. Are you saying that parts or the engine is no longer available? Did he try Cummins for parts? I just checked and the machine has 590 hours on it and I am not ready to replace the whole thing if something happens.
