I just bought an old drop type lime/fertilizer spreader on Craigs list. As soon as I pick it up and have a chance to examine it more closely, I will post pictures. It was dark when I looked at it, but it appears to be an eight foot wide model, with an agitator in the bottom of the hopper, and a lever to open the gates. It looks to be in very good shape. Going online, I saw one that looks the same, and it was a model 18 Oliver, but I am not sure. My question, does anyone have any pictures of an Oliver pull type drop spreader? I would like to identify mine. It looks similar to the Ezee Flows I see pictures of but a little different. Again, when I go pick it up soon, I will post pictures.

Does anyone use this type of spreader for Ag lime or pellitized lime and pellitized fertilizer? (food plot use)

They are used for seeding, lime, ferterlizing and spreading dried chicken poop. I used one as a kid on my Granddads farm. His was a 8 ft New Idea. Ken Sweet

They work great for pelletized materials and for seeding grains.
I've never tried "bulk" powdered Ag lime, but I don't think it would be a problem as long as it's DRY.

For many types of small seeds you'll need to mix them with something else to get good results

Yes, we always mixed the clover and grass seed in with the ferterlizer at the barn and turned the drop gate off and let the agitator stir it up on the way to the field. Ken Sweet

Maybe I'm confused, but from what you describe it's designed to spread ag lime. It sounds like BFF and Sweettractors are talking about 3ph spreaders? Maybe not. Do you have a link to a picture of an Oliver lime spreader? I ask because I have a spreader that I can't identify. I've searched for Oliver spreaders but can't find anything.

Here's one similar, lots of farmers used to use them.

That is exactly like the one we used in 1960. Since I started the machinery business in 1977, I have sold dozens of them. John Deere also made a real nice unit. Ken Sweet

Yes, that is a similar type spreader. They all work the same. They have a bladed agitator in the bottom length of the hopper that is driven by the wheels, but also has a disconnect for transporting w/o agitation. Inside the lid, it had directions and settings for fertilizers and even seed, it appeared. It was rusty and dark outside, so I could not get a good look. I did not see a manufacturer listed. When I pick this up, i will inspect it more closely. Mine is in really good condition (as far as I could see) and everything (I hope) seems to work. Got it for $375. Wonder if my 500 cc Polaris four wheeler will pull this loaded?

The 500 CC probably would have a hard time, if it was full of fertilizer or lime. Ken Sweet

Thanks for the link. That’s very close, but not the same one I have. The hopper is as close to mine as I’ve seen though. The EZ spreaders have a narrower hopper. One of these days I’ll have get a picture and see if anyone can ID it. The farm paint job makes it tough.
Back to using it for seed: it would seem that the agitator would destroy some seed. Does that not happen? I plan to use mine to spread fertilizer here soon, but haven’t done it yet. Can’t see why it wouldn’t work, but it may be tricky to get cleaned out.

Don't put in more material than you want to spread. To empty, just keep driving. To Clean after fertilize use, I always backed mine in a pond and sloshed it around, pulled it out, raised the lids, let the sun dry it out and finally lubed it up real good with used motor oil. Ken Sweet

I'd be surprised if you can hook it up.

The Ezee Flow that I use won't hook to mine because the operating lever hits the back rack on the ATV.

If you can attach it, I think the 500 will pull it. because it wont have much tongue weight at all

Mine is similar to the one linked. It is about 8 ft between the wheels

When I get done, I rinse it well with water and let it dry, then come back later and mist it with a mix of diesel fuel and motor oil that I keep in a garden sprayer

Just finished overhauling a 10 foot EZEE Flow and posted pictures in a new thread. Will spread Ag Lime and pelletized anything plus small seed if you mix with fertilizer. Let me know if you have any questions. I would guess they are made the same.

Hey HCJ Tractor,

I just noticed that we are both in the upstate of SC. Where did you find your spreader? I found mine on one of those country drives when I saw the tongue sticking up out of some grass. I had been looking for one for a while and it was pure luck. I grew up in Ohio and finding old implements in the upstate of SC is a little difficult. Let me guess....you are planting food plots.

Saturday I found 2 EZ Flows and 1 John Deere all at the same place. No one was home, so I did not get the prices? Ken Sweet

sorry for the late reply, but I found mine on Craigslist. I am in Greenville, and yes, food plots are my brand of farming. Where can you get ag lime around here? What does it cost? I still have not picked up this spreader yet. Hope to get it this weekend and look it over more closely.

The direction and settings you have inside the lid is what im looking for. I have an old Oliver 8ft drop spreader and the direction sheet is gone. If you could shoot me a picture of it that would be great.
