Well it's been a few years but here's the story - never got around to the whole rebuilding thing, ended up using it too much to let it stay stripped down.
Looks pretty much the same, but now it's starting to get torn up from use.
Belt started slipping on the fan clutch, looks like belt adjustment ain't gonna be as easy as the old ford 600 - getting the body panels off is a job in itself!
Bullington, glad to see you bought that 4500. Great old tractors, just not a lot of info out there about em!
Time to figure out what trans/hydraulic oil to replace the old SAE 80 with as well.

Sounds to me like that 40 year old tractor that didn't need a rebuild at all. Mostly needed to be cleaned up and put back to work. Guys, there are a lot of old tractors like this out there for good prices. They work surprisingly well and don't end up costing much. Getting one going can be an easy fun project, as well as being a good thing to teach a kid, too. The boss might even agree.
What it comes down to is that putting an old machine back to work is a whole different feeling from the media-driven feeling of buying something new. Not for everyone, & not better or worse....just different. It teaches different things.

Yessir you are absolutely right! I have learned about diesel and hydraulics, which I had previously not had much experience with. Anyone who works on cars or bikes can work on old tractors.
