"...My father-in-law passed away about 4 years ago. He had in his garage an oxy/acet. torch set-up that he had not used for probably 10 years prior to his passing. He owned the tanks outright. It is all still sitting there..."

Just got back from Cee Kay Supply, local fairly-large welding supply outfit here in town. The story is my father-in-law had a life-time pre-paid lease on the oxy and acet. tanks.

I had to pay an over-due $25.00 inspection/test fee for each cylinder up front, and the lease was transferred into my name at no additional cost. Every (5) years I will have to pay the $25.00/cylinder fee, but there are no other charges other than the gases. I can sell my lease to a third party if I desire. I had the option of changing over to a 20 year lease without the inspection fees, but also without the right to transfer (sell) the lease. Decided to stay with the lifetime lease. Counter guy said they don't do lifetime leases anymore.

I then paid $88.17 to exchange the acetylene tank, which only had about 40 psi in it. Supposedly 130 CF of acetylene, at least that is what the receipt says.

As I started carrying the acet. tank up the stairs to the loading dock, the old guy in charge there yelled, "that don't look like one of ours", but it was. Said he had never
seen one like it. I told him it had been sitting in a garage for a very long time.

Enjoyed this thread. I just bought a Backhoe and happened to buy an oxy setup from the same guy. He's downsizing and has two setups.

I appreciate hearing the cost of the parts. Makes me realize what a great price he gave me.

Look like almost new hoses, look like almost new gauges, a handful of tips/ends that look almost new, cutting head same condition, goggles in good shape (look older than everything else), two new looking large privately owned cylinders (both full) and the cart. $250

Have to get my own rods. Guess I'll have to search for the books also.

That's a really good deal. I recently checked with the LWS where my bottle rentals for O/A are $200 annually (for the pair). They can only sell me SMALLER tanks than what I have for $300 each! :(
To rebuild a set of quality regulators $60-$70
To rebuild cutting torch attachment $30+
To rebuilt torch handle $30+
50ft grade T hose $50

You can buy a new set of Harris gauges for less than rebuild cost that you quoted. I had all the pressure gauges needing replacement and the LWS had them for $15 each x 4. I bought a new complete set with hose for $149. Later I found replacement hi and low pressure gauges for my old set for $5 each at Atwoods, so now I have two complete sets, one Victor and one Harris. Parts are interchangeable on both sets.

At those prices for that quality, that's certainly the way to go,Gary. Unfortunately in Canada with our poor exchange rate on the U.S. Dollar combined with excessive shipping costs makes shopping for many items difficult. BTW the rebuild price I quoted was for REGULATOR with new gauges.
