what kind of engine do you have in that 530 deere I don't think it will come anywhere near 70 to 90 hp that he is asking about ;-)

Naw, that 530 engine is stock. But of course you could get the same tractor in 530, 630, 730, & 830 configurations. They all pull just fine; I've never heard of anyone wanting for power from ther 2 cylinder JD.
Part of that is the overall weight. Even the little 530 is around 5000 lbs bare.
Nowdays we quote HP for convenience, but it's torque that does the pulling & PTO work. Those two cylinder JDs had massive torque & lots of rotating engine mass....but relatively little HP. That's because they redlined at less than half the RPM that a newer tractors run at.
To reduce "Advertising Dept. HP Inflation", all the old tractors used the Univ. of Nebraska standard tests.
For anyone interested, those tests make good reading and are still available today. Here's a link to the JD 530:

yea I have a 44 Slant Dash All Fuel, its not very healthy - debating whether to put it back stock or add upgraded carb and pistons for more compression and ultimately more power - I don't plan to make it a museum piece and its always nice to have another usable tractor so I don't have to switch implements so much - it will be a winter project one of these yrs......just no time right now this winter is already tied up!!!

I still have the B I grew up on as well. They are torque monsters for sure - I don't like them for an all day work tractor but they are reliable for the most part and not that bad on fuel until you get into the bigger gassers. Couldn't be any worse than a 706 or 806 gasser they guzzled when pulling hard.

I know a 730 D and 830 could pull a 15' batwing but lord knows I wouldn't want to ride one all day pulling it ;-)

I'm helping clean up liners and pistons out of a JD 5020 . One hole weights more all 4 of my sleeves rods and pistons in our 1948 B Allis Chambers that got the Liquid Glass stop leak ran in the crankcase.

This is the first 5030 I have seen and hope to hear both tractors running soon.

I put in a day on a 5020 about 30 years ago. Loudest tractor I ever sat on. Pulled good though.

My favorite was my dad's 930 Case diesel. TractorData lists them at 80 hp or so if I recall. It kept pace on a 5-16 plow with the neighbor's Deutz that was rated at 110. It went on auction back in '95 and I've longed for it ever since.
He had a 3pt 18 foot wide field cultivator on it and it would pull it just about anywhere. One time they were cleaning out an old grove to replant a nice tree line at church. He had duals on it with the cultivator mounted. They hooked up a heavy 1" cable around a monster cottonwood stump. There was a 6 foot loop at the end of the cable where they hooked the clevis. He put it in 2nd gear and gave it a tug. The front wheels came up and it balanced about 12k lbs on the rear axles and spun out. The cable clamps slid up the cable with a shower of sparks like a kid's 4th of July sparkler. Another farmer came up behind with his Farmall 460 and started to push with his bucket and the stump moved. They had to get wrenches to unbolt the clamps in order to get the clevis back off though. There are lots of bigger tractors, but I loved the sound of that 6 cylinder snort, and it punched way above it's class.

I got a guy with a jd 4020 that wants me to buy it . Jd 4020 vs case 930 what your thoughts ?

4020 easier for parts/repairs you might be hard pressed to find a good case repairman? and presuming the 4020 is diesel as is the case?
