I liked the photos, they are historical and the commentaries helped to understand the pictures time frame and what you are looking at. Not far from where I live there was a rock wall guard rail that was built by the wpa, and in 1988 my inlaws was in a wreck in that area and the drunk that hit them knocked their truck into that wall. When the truck stopped it was sitting on top of the wall and the rock wall was not damaged in any way. In the early 90's the state road replaced those rock wall guard rails with the modern steel rails that we have today. Those steel rails have already had to be replaced since then. Seems like we got pretty good bang for the buck with those rock wall guard rails 58 years versus 7 or 8 years. There is a court house that was built by wpa out of rock, they still use it today 78 years later and no plans to replace it any time soon, seems like we got pretty good bang for the buck. The Hoover Dam and the TVA are they still in existence today and do they still provide a useful purpose? On one memorial day I recall seeing a small grave and an older woman knelt putting flowers on it and she was weeping, I asked my mom about it and she said that it was the grave of that woman's child that she lost during the great depression there was some brokenness that remained there. People that lived through it saw the hardship up close and personal, it may have been nationwide or world wide but to those that lived it it was local. WW11 was a great and a terrible time but the USA woke up and began to shine in a effort that called for great sacrifice on the part of the people and the nation, don't want to minimize the war in any way because many paid the ultimate sacrifice, but if you think about it wasn't the war effort a gov. jobs program. From the soldier to the assembly line to the steel mills to the mines to the machine shops people working with one purpose to bring victory to our nation. Lately I hear more and more references being made to the depression on the news, certainly it is uncertain n times we live in. I hear Americans many are worried about losing their homes, their cars, and argument what to do about it. Lately I hear some talking about losing their pensions that they thought was safe and their investments in their 401k's, people that were thought to be experts are seeing a result and think they are seeing a problem and because the result is so bad they are blinded to the real problem. We were warned about tying our houses together till there was no place to be alone and we wouldn't take heed so now we face the consequences. They will try an old remedy, but it won't work because the circumstances are not the same and because it fails those that thought it didn't work the first time can say see I told you so it didn't work. I hope that someone soon will come forward that has skills and can see the problem and give direction to get our country lined back out. Citizens of our country worry about losing their life style, other countries are worried about losing the market for their goods, that was two thoughts that was expressed by the media as one reporter reported on the usa and another reported on the fears of the other countries.
