I've seen hyd assisted brakes.. though havn't seen hyd front brakes very often.. in 4wd though, and especially with diffy lock.. rear braking will translate to the front.. etc.

that said.. 2wd, and no ps on steep or hilly ground is not my idea of fun.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that. Having all the braking on the back means less stuff to break. I would have to adjust the brakes so left and right are perfectly equal. I suppose it wouldn't matter when diffferential lock is applied, all wheels would stop simultaneously. If I relied on that it might get dangerous because one day I would forget dif lock is disengaged...I'd mash whatever brake pedal my foot touches first and get a nice surprize!

I have steering brakes on ? all my tractors.. some of them have brake lock pins to lock r and l together.. others you just have to hit betweent he 2 pedals and get both.. though a piece of radiator hose does tend to couple them real good.. :)

I found a guy who has a Kubota L3350 with a loader and a 4560 backhoe. He says it has 6100 hours on it. I'm in Western Montana and he is 3 hours drive from me.
That seems like a lot of hours. He says the backhoe only has 100 hours on it.

He wants $8700 for it and doesn't admit to anything being wrong with it other than some dings in the sheetmetal. When I pressed him for info he played dumb (or maybe he is). He says he bought it new in 92 and used it on his 20 acres. You would think that after putting 6100 hours on it he would have a lot to say about it. He sounds pretty old.

What kinds of things should I look for besides the obvious?

Should I post this on the Kubota forum?

6100 hours and hwe doesn't know any specific details about it? Hmm.... that almost calculates out to just shy of an hour a day, every day for the entire 18ys he owned it. seems he should know more about it with that kind of familiarity??

2458n,
Around here there are very few tractors for sale, and those that are sit in dealers lots with pretty steep price tags on them. There are a couple possibly suitable tractors for sale 3 or 4 hours drive from here but I don't have a trailer to haul one.
I'll have to choose from a very limited selection or continue waiting.

Dook, I can't tell you very much about the tractor, but I have a 4560 backhoe on my L4610, bought it new in 2003. I probably have 100+ hours on the BH, and it's a very strong, heavy-duty unit that has done some serious digging and stump removal for me. Kubota offered the 4560 for many years, so it was evidently a successful design, but it was expensive and heavy, and you don't see too many of them. It runs on a pto driven pump, and there is a permanently attached heavy subframe that mates up beside the loader frame on the tractor. The backhoe attaches to the tractor at 4 points at the rear... attaching/removing it is only a bit more complex than your typical 3pt attachments, however you do need to take the 3pt linkages off by pulling a couple of pins and a pair of bolts before the BH goes on. If you need a backhoe, this is a good one. And, at something near 2,500 lbs, it's one heck of a counterweight for the FEL. Here are a couple of pics of my 4560.

I spoke with a guy who has a Kubota L2450DT. I'll go look at it on Sunday. He said the hour meter showed 300 hours but he thought it had been replaced (not original owner). It has been stored outside and the paint is faded. He says it's in pretty good condition. Want's $6500. It has a Kubota loader.

Is the L2450DT the same as an L245DT, or is it one made for the European market?

Thanks to all of you who have responded to this thread.
It's really hard to find used 4x4 tractors in Western Montana, I've been looking high and low. Maybe this is the one.

Why not look in other states & have it shipped? It's not really that much money to have one shipped. This would open your options considerably. Then again, if you could afford it there are some awesome deals going on right now. 0% of 72 months is hard to beat. good luck.

Definitely take a look at older Kioti tractors. They won't have the high used prices like the big three yet offer the same or better capacities for similar sized machines. The CK-series runs from a CK20 (21 hp) to the CK35 (35 hp) also the larger framed DK-series runs from DK35 (35hp) to a DK90 (90hp). They even have a commercial line of tractors in the LK-series.

Parts are just as available as the big three and they will be around for plenty long. Bobcat even re-badges the Kioti tractors to sell as their own line of compact tractors.
