Older Deere CUTs - 50 -55 -70\'s -??

OK, if I were going to add a small CUT for a small price, what is the way to go?

Looking at Deere's x50, x55, x70 series, I would like a ROPS, mid mower, and MFWD. HST would be nice. I really wish they had offered Yanmar's Powershift. But a manual tranny is doable. I don't care about a loader.

Anything to avoid? Something that really stands out?

Of the three, only the 55 series had the Hydro. They were Bullet proof Yanmar tractors, The 55 series did have a paint peeling problem but other than that they were Great.

I owned an old (1991) 670. Nice machine..I must admit I do miss it sometimes (even though the current 790 is the same machine...bigger and a more power).

But I must agree with the other posters...go for a x55 series machine (855 is the pick of the litter, IMHO). But you'll still pay more then $10K for a nice MFWD machine.

Even the 670's (19 gross HP, 16.5 @ the PTO with a manual tranny) will go for more then $5K easily.

I had an 855 w/ 60" deck for almost a year. Nice, simple, reliable machine. But, it sure seemed to be a topheavy little rascal. I guess it was a combination of sitting up high and it being narrow. It never tipped but that is one of the main reasons I traded it off (and the fact the new 4000 series came out). I will have to say, it was well built (I'm pretty sure it was all import, even assembled (mostly) overseas) and was more of the "old style" machines. All metal, HST seems to not be nearly as parasitic as the new ones & solid. I liked the way the mid/rear PTO's engaged. The hydraulic's were on the weak side compared to the newer machines.

I guess the 955 could only be better.

My 955's been a real workhorse. No complaints at all. Cost $18.9K in '01 w/140 hrs, FEL, soft cab, and 5' Lucknow PTO blower.

The new 20's are sure looking nice, but, it's hard to justify getting rid of the old girl - she's aging well. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I own a 89-90 JD 750 4x4 and really like it. It is high and somewhat top heavy, even with weighted R1 tires. I can't fault it though. Darn thing really is bullet proof and is narrow enough to slip through the forest without a trail. Tranny is geared but thats OK with me. I am upgrading so that I can use a backhoe attachment (Mahindra 4530) so the 750 is for sale. I'm in NC. Here is a pic of the tractor with its new BH FEL and removable toothbar. I really like the JD 990 but the Mahindra 30 series is more what I'm looking for.

looks good! I saw your ad for it. It sure looks like my old Yanmar 186D (in green) Now that you mention it, both my wife and I really feel a lot more stable with our 4310. Our land in pretty crazy...
