Ok- need your help guys. I got a metal homelite super XLAO . I am 80 percent sure the coil is bad. I wanted to get another coil, but my search on the internet and ebay shows various wild prices for the blue coil a94605. On ebay - from the same guy randy he got them listed at $506,$411,$307,$ all the way to $106 bucks. I see others for stens brand, aftermarket brand for 80 buckish. :confused2::eek:

What should I do? :confused3:

Here's some sites that I've used in the past for Homelite info. Arborsite.com.......chainsaw.com........

I'm not real computer savvy nor am I a businessman. My attachment to my old Homelites is such that I rarely use them. I let my fairly new Stihl do most of the work now.
Cheer,
Mike

I know this will sound crazy, but I did it and it worked. Take the coil out, it should be a blue Prestolite coil. Wrap it in aluminum foil and bake in the oven. I think 250 degrees for 5 minutes or so. Just try it, what have you got to loose? Oh, I would wait until your wife is gone before I baked the coil

Another tip.
To dry wet documents, money etc use your microwave oven.
Do it in 1/2 min steps. Works great!
Careful with newer Canadian bills as they are plastic. Paper OK.

Find a saw repair place. Someone who has been in business when these were popular. Tell them what you have and see if they have a junk one and buy the whole saw for parts. Not worth paying someone a shop rate to fix them, and many saws get left when they hear what a repair will cost. Bought a stihl chop saw that someone ran regular gas in for 50.00. it had a diamond blade to boot.

Thanks for the tip. Mine quit, no spark. Looked at the price of getting a used module, and about had a heart attack... so I tried the bake method.
I couldn't get the module off the saw without destroying the spark plug cap, so pulled the module as far from the saw as I could, and poked it in a rag wrapped metal coffee can. Turned my heat gun on to 250*, and let it play on the module, kept checking the temperature with an infrared gun to make sure, and "baked" it for about 10 minutes. Ran out of time last night, so left it for a day.

I put the saw back together tonight, and we have spark. Will have to wait for the weekend to put gas in it, but I'm sure it will run.

try it, you have nothing to lose, and it worked for me.
