Older John Deere tractor info

Our local town highway department has a yellow John Deere model # jd301a. Its 2wd. They say its John Deere commercial. Basically I (they) need to know the specs to decide if they want by some attachments for it. I tried one site that I have book marked for tractor info but it didn't list it.

Find the serial number on the machine and go to a good John Deere dealer they should be able to help you.

Go to the deere forum on ytmag.com and ask them to tell you what the ag version of this tractor is, post the highway department model number and someone can probably tell you the equivalent ag.

Are you sure it's a 301a? I never heard of that model with JD. JD had the old A tractors but that's not something you would want for a work tractor. That's more of an antique tractor.

Do you think it is a 310A? That is a popular JD industrial model.

Yes i know the tractor it's an updated 300,very good machines the 301 would have been late 70's ealy 80's. 3cyl. i think at that time only offerd in diesel. I can't remember hp but it's around 40-50 pto hp witch is how tractors used to be rated. witch in my opinion was beter than gross eng. because the trans. type and no. off gears pto drives ect. can change pto hp. greatly,most tractors do some kind of pto dutyies. Anyway i hope the hp info will help you with the implement choice.

I just noticed your in VT. if you need exact specs. you could call Nortrax here in pembroke N.H. im sure someone there will know exact info,it was a popular tractor for road matanence moeing,loader work, and a small hoe was avalible.

I was told by the road commissioner that its says on the hood jd-301a. I have seen the tractor many times before while it is working. They have a mid mount sickle bar mower and a 3pt hitch pto broom.

It looks like or very similar to this..

Evolved out of the 1010 industrial.

The 301A Deere was made from '74-81. It used a 152 cubic-inch, three cylinder diesel. It had 43 PTO hp.
FYI - 301A Gasoline units were made from '74-79. Same horsepower...different engine displacement.
