I am new to this forum, but I hope on find some information. I am baling about 10 to 20 acres this year and my Oliver 720 has a gash in the flywheel bushing for the shear bolt. I have been limping along using a lock nut and it has been working well. The last shear bolt that failed pushed the bushing out about an 1/8th inch. This allows me to put a washer in between the flywhell and the drive. I need to change the bushing. I have the spare part, but since it is press fit I don't know the best way to remove the old bushing and install the new one? Does any one have any suggestions?

Post a few photos and you'll probably get the help you're looking for. My baler is a 1980s vintage MF124 two-twine small square baler.

Can you place a block of hard wood across the bushing and gently tap the bushing back in some?

Might be a temporary fix.

How about drilling it with a gradually increasing drill bit size until it pops out? Its probably a soft material and any offset in the piloting won't be an issue.

What do you plan to do to install the new one?

BTW: If its already out by 1/8", there is a 1/8" gap in the flywheel on the other side which is probably a good pilot for the new bushing. Soooo... wack the new bushing into the gap which would probably drive out the old one at the same time, eh?

I am not as proficient as my daughter is on the digital stuff. I will get her to take a picture and post it. I think I will have to disconnect the clutch from the fly wheel to get good enough access to punch or drill it out. I am always fearful I will do more damage than good. But I think I will need to take the bull by the horns and do it. Since it is raining this week I will try to install the new one. Thanks for the help I will keep you posted and also post some pictures.

I have attached a page from the parts manual that some one sent to me. THe bushing that needs replaced is in a circle (3510 or 510) with the arrow pointing at it. Hopefully tomorrow I wil have an actual picture.

It seems to me that you should be able to punch it out towards the back with a drift or dowel thats the same size as the bushing. Then just wack the new one in behind it. No need to disassemble.

I am half way there. I bought a cheap brass punch at harbor Freight. I unhooked the PTO clutch assembly from the flywheel. I sprayed the bushing with PB Blaster and pounded it out. I cleaned the hole and made sure the new bushing was clean, but I started too late and it got to dark. I spoke to a local repair place today and they suggested that I use an old socket about the same size of the bushing to guide it in. I will try that tomorrow.

With this fixed and the new knife assemblies that I got for my Ford 501 sickle bar. (TSC had them half off and they were already half of New Holland痴 price). I will be ready to hay again when ever it stops raining here in Kansas.

Success. I was able to use the old socket and get the bushing in. I hopefully can start cutting again Monday. Still there are chances for rain SUnday and monday. I probably could have cut on thursday. It has taken me 8 days to repair all my equipment. Thanks again for the help.
