HI-I have a 2012 GMC 2500 HD Durmax 4wd, Crewcabshortbox which does most of it's life pulling a 3horse Bumper pull WW aluminum trailer and 4horse gooseneck Featherlight. I annoy other drivers in the am because both trailers cause my headlights to shine into their eyes like I have the brights on and I'm looking at Timbrens as a way to stop that without having to reaim my lights. I have searched this site and find a few references to Timbrens, but no discussion of them in the 27 references that I looked at on this site. My specific concern after looking at some complaints on the internet is some find that when the truck is empty it can cause more banging and noise as the axle hits the Timbrens. I've found no real criticism of them as helping when pulling.
So my questions for those that have them or decided not to get them, how do they work when the truck is empty? Good investment? Do they work as advertised? Anything else??
Since my truck is essential new and the 11 models on up have beefed up their suspension, I'm hoping that I'd not have a problem with the truck unloaded, but I'm interested in experiences of the TBN crowd.
Thanks. Bill

I have a set on my truck. I did not put them on, they were on when I purchase the truck. I think the previous owner used my truck to hall a slide in camper. Anyway, they never hit the axle when empty, and I think they only time they were "used" is when I had 1500lbs of concrete in the bed. So I guess they work good. I dont think you will have any problem, and I know a ton of people over on the RV forum use them.

I have put two sets on customers trucks and both came off. One set a week later and one a month for air bags. That should tell you everything you need to know.

Chris-what were your customers complaints about the Timbrens?
Thanks-Bill

Rough ride, added noise, and and when measured at the rear bumper maybe 1" less drop with the trailer on.

I am not a fan of making a truck more than it is but if you chose to do so get air bags. Hands down the best option.

Same is true with the add a leaf stuff. Alk the sets we put on did little or nothing. Air bags are hands down the best option.

Well, I put a set on a new 1/2 ton 4x4 once, and every time I went over the bridge on the bottom of my street, I drove through a "dip" between the ashphalt and the bridge deck, I heard and felt a big thud. The axle was hitting the Timbrens. They came off and I ended buying a 3/4 ton. I know comparing a 1/2 ton to 3/4 tons is apples to oranges, but that's my experience.

Go air bags. That way you can make adjustments for different loads to keep the truck level. Helps keep the steering proponents in the proper parameters.

I've got ride rite air bags with an airlift wireless air system on my 2500 Dmax and love them. If you pump the bags up to 100 psi with no load, the leaf springs make noise since they're unloaded. Otherwise they are fantastic, they haven't made my ride any worst and are great at leveling out the truck with a trailer on. By far the best item I've added to my truck.

I have a set of Timbrens on a 2005 F350 CC Dually 4x4. I use the truck to pull a 5 horse gooseneck, 28ft tandem duals gooseneck hay trailer, 32ft bp 2 car hauler and an assortment of smaller bp trailers. I've not experienced any noises or harsh ride whether towing empty or loaded. Same holds true driving just the truck empty or loaded. I just had to put a set of airbags on a 2012 Ford Edge (electric wheelchair on back) because Timbrens were not available for the Edge. My vote goes to the Timbrens.
