Onan ignnition parts?

I rebuilt a couple CCK's about 20 years ago. The round main bearing (think regular cam bearing for auto engine) cost $50. for one!!! The gasket set cost more than one for a small block Chevy!
I don't know how Onan EVER stayed in business.

Very simple. Onan engines built 30 years ago are still running. As are ones that are over 40 years old. Phone company trucks had them in them. Look in a motor home and what did you find, an Onan genset. As the statement goes, pay me now or pay me later. With the Onans, you paid up front and them ran the daylights out of them. I have a 28 year old one and a 46 year old one.

I am pretty sure it is the ingnition control module, I just hisitate to pull the flywheel and do the work myself. When I was younger I pulled a few, but I no longer have my puller and do not know if it would fit anyway. I really haven't had a chance to get involved into it too deeply as I ahve been traveling for my job. I ahve no idea what a fair price is to have it done and it wiould have to be picked up and dlivered as all I ahve is a small pick up and I don't thin I cna get it in the back.,...even without the deck. Anyway...thaks for you response.

I agree and I have considered purching two of them.....the're not cheep, but the dern thing runs so flawlessly (when it runs) I would hate not to be able to find the part if it fails again before I wear it out.

I know this is an old post, but I was wondering if changing out the ignition module P/N 166-0785 solved your problem ?

Greetings all....

I started this thread quite a while back and got a LOT of good information from a lot of helpful people. However, I neglected to post if there was a resolution to my problem. Recently another member contacted me via PM to ask if I have found a solution and if so, to post that resolution on this thread so others could benefit....something I should have done to begin with. So with that said, here is my response to him:

".....yes I did get it running and it is still running to this day. There is a small electrical module under the flywheel that goes out when it gets hot. If you wait until it cools off it'll work again, but eventually, it wont work at all. It was a bit of a pain to replace, but of course it was worth it....it's an awesome machine. I do not remember where I got it, just that it was hard to find and it was about $86.00. I do remember I ordered it on the internet. They're out there, but you may have to look a bit".

Look for a replacement on tractortool store. I guess, you will find one for appropriate price there. I always get some parts for my machinery from them
