JD4310 eHydro with bells and whistles
Okay, guys, I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a JD4310, but wanted to ask one more time if my understanding is correct: Can an L3010 run R4 tires and a mid-mount mower? My understanding is that one canNOT put on R4 tires with a mmm on this tractor. Right? I really want R4s and a mmm, so I'm leaning green. If I'm wrong, I'll wait and call Steve Carver.

Also, how difficult is it to remove a mmm from an L3010? One selling point for me on the JD is the deck wheels that rotate so you can (one man) slide the deck from under the mower. Comments? Thanks.

Bill,

Wish I could help you out. I have an L3010. But use a 3ph mower and have turfs /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif. I hate the turfs, but love the tractor. That 4310 would be one nice machine as well, though.

Instead of waiting to find out if you're wrong, why don't you call (or e-mail steve@carverequipment.com ) Steve Carver and ask him. It would be a shame to miss out on an L3010 just because you didn't have all of the facts.

I don't know about the 3010, but I have a 3410 with R4s and a MMM was certainly an option. Although, I have a 3pt mower.

I don't see why it would be a problem???

I have an L3010 with a MMM and turf tires. I can't remember whether or not the R3's were compatible with the MMM or not. I specifically wanted turf tires because I wanted to minimize the damage to my lawn as much as possible.

Either way you'll have a blast with your new tractor.

The R3's are definitely a tougher tire than the turf tires but I'm not convinced they have any better traction than the turf tires. I've used several tractors with R3's and was never impressed with the traction in the mud...they just filled up like the turf do. I think the turfs have a distinct advantage over the R3's in the winter. All the extra edges and sipes in the tire give much better traction in icey conditions.

This is my analysis of the tires. If you want traction in mud you need R1's, if you want the toughest tires (punture resistance) get the R3's and if you want to put the fewest dents in your lawn get the R4's.

BTW, it takes me less than 5 minutes to either install or remove the mower. Theoretically you can slide the deck sideways from underneath the tractor but I don't do it that way. The easiest way is to lift the front of the tractor off the floor and roll the deck straight forward. You can then lower the tractor back to the floor and the deck will be sitting right in front of the tractor.

One other problem with sliding the mower sideways, at least for me, is that it requires that I have room beside the tractor to slide the mower. I almost always have something stored there (boat, etc.)
