He didn't lose it, caught the puppy and used the truck to bring it to a slow stop. He did real good.

Here's where I come in. I don't do normal welding stuff like all the rest of the boys with a gas drive welder on the back of their truck.

But I do have friends and family. One of my friends is Ronny Young, owner of Performax Trailers.

He called. And since I was pulling hair out, my own, not the bravest man alive, I stopped by and grabbed a new Bulldog two and five sixteenths and hooked'em up for the Interstate.

It wasn't his trailer! He told me that at least six times in five minutes. But the nice young men were on their way to his shop when the coupler decided it was time to split in two.

We pulled his rig forward and then I got mine in front of the trailer. One so it would be easier for me to work without having to drag out all the cables etc. Two so we could plug in the trailer flashers to my truck while I was working.

Of all the things I like doing that some folks think are a little crazy working between two trucks on the side of an interstate at the beginning of rush hour isn't on the list.

I don't like it. Too many fools out there. And even though my lovely bride would be much better off financially I do believe my trip to the afterlife if there is one would be seriously detoured by the cussing she'd be giving me for leaving so soon by doing something so stupid.

I can work quick. When I'm afear'd I can work even quicker.

It didn't take long.

They were back on the road.

That tow rig is one fine looking lady. If you doubt it's being a lady check out the west end of the east bound.......mmm mmm.

One other thing. I put those who look over their shoulder when hooking up a trailer in the same class as those who, well, it isn't a manly thing to do.

But these boys showed me the way it's supposed to be done. the driver didn't look into a mirror one. He stared hard at the dvd screen in the dash of that truck and made hooking up look easy.

I guess I'm going to have to go back to school see when the redefined "manly". /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That's about a 10 on the pucker factor meter trying to stop trailer that size. If thats where I think it is he was only about mile or so from crossing Lake Ray Hubbard.

Yup.

Like I said, the kids did good. Kids, thirties? That's kids, right?

I've been hauling trailers of all kinds and sizes since I was eighteen in the Army. I've always been lucky. This kid must have been a friend of mine in a past life. Because he sure had my luck today.

Here's the Bulldog I welded on.

If they are smart they'll have Ronny put on one of his pull type hitches. I can't see them letting go.

Do you think you could post a very clear pic of the coupling as i am not familar with its workings, We use similar here but not quite the same design.

I've never seen a hitch break like that, and hope I never do. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif But those little cameras and display on the dash are great. I had that on my last motorhome and also on both of the Matco Tool trucks I drove occasionally.

I'd guess it was less about the capacity of the coupler than the GVW of the trailer. An educated guess on my part would be the trailer grosses out at twenty four to thirty thousand pounds. The coupler at ten. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
