"Around here" is south central PA. Next time I'm at the store, I'll see who makes / distributes the rare liquid and let you know. The cream soda we stock up on is made by a company called "A-Treat" but I'm not sure about the birch beer....................chim

Oh yeah, could it be Catasauqua? That's near Allentown. Probably close enough to find the drinks.

I cannot stand either one of them. I used to love Coke before they changed it to taste more like Pepsi. I know they call Coke Classic but it is not even close to what it used to be. They both taste like bottled over sweetened sewage to me.

Diet Coke!!!! Used to drink regular coke unitl they changed the formula, now to sweet.

I remember when a 7 oz. bottle used to be a nickle at the gas station.

Mountain Dew?? Yuk!!! Triple Yuk!
Back, too many years to remember, when I was a Boy Sprout in Edmonton, Alberta ... we got roped into handing out free samples iof Mountain Dew. This was when they were introducing it to Canada ... oops, that dates me before the last Ice Age, doesn't it.
Anyway ... handle out sample, sample some, hand out sample, sample some ... can you say MD OD ???

I'll add my vote for RC ... always liked it when I was a kid ... Coke is tolerable when extra cold.
Pepsi ... which I liked when I was a kid (sweet tooth root ends in my big toe!) is sickly sickly sickly sweet ... Quadruple Yuk!

Of course, I'm of the firm opinion that such sweet stuff as "pop" is only acceptable when mixed with something 80 to 100 proof.

not only that, Robert ... but Coke, Cherry Coke and other soda's also make excellent bombs. or so I discovered when I picked up my motorhome yesterday. I'd forgotten several cans in the mini-cooler (and in the fridge) and it got awful hot this summer!
Enough to put you off pop ... or mix ... for quite awhile!

Of course, in the summer time, Margueritas are the drink of choice anyway.

Birch Beer?

hmm ... that reminds me, I haven't seen a bottle of ginger beer for many a moon ... don't know that I've ever seen it in the States.
(non-alcoholic, of course, just like root "beer")

urghhhhh
yesterday on the road, I stopped for a coffee and noticed they had slushes and had Mountain Dew with Chreey ... so I filled a 66 oz cup ... took a sip .... put it on the shelf, filled a large coffee cup and took it to the till ... felt a little guilty about the waste but I'd have ended up pouring it out anyway ...
urk!

Golfgar, we stopped at a store this evening and I looked around to see what they had. All this talk of birch beer made me thirsty for something different this time. They had two types of birch beer - clear and brown. Wifey decided I needed the brown version, 'cause soft dring shouldn't be clear. Tastes much like I remember from many moons ago. This was also made by the same company as the cream soda I have been getting. If your son is near Allentown, you should really be in luck. The bottler is:

A Treat Bottling CO
2001 Union Boulevard, Allentown, PA 18109

And we sold a lot of them. A case of 24 cost us $.80 so at a nickle each, we made $.40 a case./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif That lasted for many many years, then prices went up a bit and they changed all the coin slots to take $.06; had to use a nickel and a penny and that didn't last any time at all before they changed all the coin slots to take a dime. Of course there was also a $.02 deposit on the bottle.

But now I wonder about our old memories; weren't they 6 oz. bottles instead of 7 oz.?

WOW, Jim! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif That's great! That's where he's at. I haven't gotten through to him yet, but I expect to hear from him today, so I'll ask him to look out for it. I may be going out there in the next few weeks to pick up his car and bring it back to Wisconsin. If he can find the Birch Beer locally, I'll be loading that car with a few cases! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Thanks for the assist! TBN always comes through!! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
