Bird -

Ok... I stand corrected and appreciate the insight. It does swivel if I change the pin location.

I guess I'm still learning about these things - thanks for the clarification!

( Bob, I don't like the terminology used and don't know why the industry has not changed it, but a "swinging drawbar" is the drawbar that sticks straight out the back...)

Bird, please repeat that description about once a month for newbies like me who found it confusing. First I thought I knew what a swinging drawbar was (longitudinal, the way you described it), then I saw a "drawbar" (lateral) in the TSC blue book, and thought I was nuts. What's worse, the NH owner's manual says, "Always pull from the drawbar", describing the fixed longitudinal drawbar on my TC18, and then I run across a receiver hitch made to fit on the "drawbar" (lateral), which I assume is where NH does not want me to pull.

Yep, Don, like I said, I think the manufacturers should get together and come up with better names. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

rmonio,
My drawbar is bolted, not pinned, so it doesn't swivel. That should not matter re: a safety chain....or strap. Today, I tried a nylon ratchet strap as a safety "chain" (picture attached). It worked just fine. A chain would probably be better if I raised the 3ph by mistake...maybe less likely to break than a nylon strap. But, for keeping the nose of a trailer down, the strap is plenty strong.

A short piece of chain with a hook at each end works as a real safety chain. One slip hook hooked on the 3ph hitch frame and a grab hook wrapped around the draw bar to adjust the chain to the desired length.

With the chain in place, the towed item can't raise up it's front end and cause trouble. This is my version of the Bad River safety chain. No longer will my pesky garden trailer rear up when full of dirt. Everything else I tow will be behavin' better now, too. Thanks for the Bad River lead!!!

It looks to me like the Bad River unit will not work with the JD i-match - anybody know for sure?

I don't have an i-match system for my 4600 so I can't confirm. Can anyone else confirm?

I'm very happy with my Bad River unit. It really works well - I'm also thinking about getting an i-match unit, but I don't know much about those and I'm happy just popping stuff on the 3-pt as it stands.

Any thoughts?

That ebay hitch does look neat, but I wonder how strong that root on the boom pole is? I see it folding up under any real weight on the end of the pole. Still a neat design for all the hitch options.
