Now that I have removed the inadvertent "trap" between the tank and the house, wife says she's noticed a bit of odor under the kitchen island sink. There's an air-admittance valve there since it was impossible to run a stack vent. I figured the rubber in the valve had deteriorated so it was leaking a little. Was NOT prepared for what I found!



The only thing I can figure is that very determined mice are in there! They would have had to chew through some of the yard piping or dropped down a roof stack vent! A big glob of heavy steel wool in a replacement valve might put a stop to this. Or a stainless steel screen? Does anyone know of a vermin-proof air-admittance valve?

I bought a roll of copper mesh to put in all vents, emergency drains and weep holes. It lets out water but keeps insects and critters out and does not corrode.
