I like plowing too. I guess the two best times in a farmer's life are in the spring, when he is anticipating a good crop year (have you ever known a farmer who, in late March or early April, didn't believe this year was going to be his best crop ever?), and in the fall, when he can see the results of his hard work. To me, all the jobs (cultivating, spraying, etc.) that come between the initial turning of the soil and harvesting of the crop are gratifying, but there are always some little concerns; will it rain on this hay I just laid on the ground? will this foot-tall corn I'm plowing get rain when it needs it? That said, I would have to put two jobs right up there with "breaking land": baling good, clean bermudagrass hay, and picking (combining) two-ton per acre peanuts. To hear that auto-wrap buzzer sound off about every 3 1/2 minutes, and spit out a 1000 bale, and to have to stop the tractor about 150 yards into the field so someone can pull a wagon to dump a load of "goobers" is my idea of a good time down on the farm.
