Jim:

What is that signature picture? At least you have one. I lost mine and can't get it back. I feel like Henro.

Is it too late to buy some flowers? It may not help, but it sure won't hurt.

Trade the car in for a new GM pick-up. 0% for 72 and she'll think you missed her. Then if you spill in the future nobody cares.

The true answer is VENTILLATION.

Clean as much as you can out and then leave the car in the driveway with all the windows down.

Run an extension cord out to it and prop up a fan blowing into the car. Try to get the air blowing over the diesel spill.

I have used a stepladder and C-clamps to position fans for similar adventures. Set the fan so that it draws fresh air in, it will exhaust all on its own.

100% of the diesel will eventually evaporate, you want to speed it up as much as possible.

If the spill is in the trunk, leave the trunk open and use two fans one in the passenger compartment and one in the trunk. My experience has been that anything smelly in the trunk rapidly migrated to the passenger compartment.

Was getting some fuel for my Tractor and the diesel container tipped over. Spilled about a pint before I could get to it. I have cleaned it, but need to clean it again as it smells pretty strong. Any suggestions for how to best clean it to completely get the smell out....she's out of town, so I got to get this fixed today...

Good luck. I won't carry diesel cans in a any passenger car. The risk is to great.

I do not know why it happens, but whenever my "social control agent A.K.A. She Who Must Be Obeyed" is out of town I find myself in similar circumstances . If all the previous suggestions do not work- roses, an expensive dinner out, and an automobile detailer (works for cat pee as well as a 1.75L spill of good scotch :() might get you out of the dog house ;). Good luck- Jay

Fortunately for me, my wife's car IS a diesel! So's my truck... And the tractor. Just need a diesel for the boat, the lawn mower and weedwacker and we'd be able to throw out the red cans.

I won't carry cans in the car but I will say that toting diesel around is MUCH safer than the millions of folks carrying cans of gasoline in their trunks. I would think that you'd have more to worry about than the smell - gas is so volatile. Guess that works two ways - it evaporates, but is so dangerous.

For all of you without trucks, look into getting a Sceptor fuel can. These are made for the military in Canada. They are basically a plastic Jerry Can. Someone in my 4x4 club got up a group buy on these and I got two of them. They don' leak! Just don't make the mistake I made, get the fuel spout instead of the 3/4 inch gas spout I got. JC

For all of you without trucks, JC

I thought every tractor owner owned a truck. Something ain't right about buying diesel and putting the jugs in a Accord. :)

Man you're in trouble!

Hope you were able to fix this before she returned. In our house the only vehicle that gets to haul gas or diesel is my pickup - for that & many other reasons I don't know how we'd get along w/out it.
