Came home from town to see 3 fire trucks and my buildings smoldering on the ground....

The wife was burning trash in a barrel and went inside. Lost a 12x20 shed, 6x10 shed both wood, my grass I planted last fall just about all my power tools probly 4k worth,all my ladders, my old Honda mower my tiller , my Dr mower, drills, saws chop saws, table saws ,routers, saws all, snapper riding mower, all my extension cords. My sprayyers, and tons more.

About half an acre of my woods burnt and bout an acre of national forest all this was 20 feet from the house luckly it didn't catch and she didn't catch us a 50000$ fine lol

I was going to get rid of the building, just not with my tools in it

Thank god my stihl trimmer and chain saw was in the carport I would a died. Not going to claim on insurance as she was illegally burning and they may drop us

Be safe out there and watch those fires!!!!!

You shoulda seen my eyes turn red when I got there almost had a stroke. Good excuse to go to Lowes though

Worked with a guy who's dad did about the same thing, only it burnt a bunch of HIS trees (it worked out for me as I sold him some replacements.) He also did not claim his loss (garage full of old tin, mowers etc that were mostly non functional anymore.)


When I burn I always keep tools handy to keep it in control & don't burn in high winds or when grasses are really dry. I have 2 larger brush piles waiting good day to burn, I live on big hill so not a lot of days a year as wind blows 90% of time...

What a terrible loss. Fortunately, both of you are unharmed. Life is full of little oops. About five years ago I looked outside and the fire had got out of my burn barrel. You'd be surprised how fast a fat, old man in just underwear can run, pulling a garden hose. I got it out - just by the graces of God - I haul garbage down the driveway for the garbage truck now.

I dig a 6x10 fire pit about 6 feet deep and usually burn in it on the bottom side of the ****, the pond sits about 40 feet above us and I have an amazing amount of water running through a hose at all times always end up drinking a few beers and relax by the fire until its out, she was burning some bills and stuff.

She didn't know the tank had a pressure valve and thought it was going to blow lol

That sucks! You need an old woodstove with a chimney and T on top. That is what I use for all the garbage that will burn here.

:confused3:Sky I know just how you feel with a wife at the burn barrel. My wife turned her back to the barrel for a few moments to tend to her garden and poof lost over 5 acres trees in the backyard a few years ago.

My wife also had close call about two years ago. Fortunately burned only about an acre of grass before she and neighbor got it under control. She called fire department but when they showed up it was already under control.
