Wow, that sucks. I thought my wife burning up one of those nice little ornamental pine trees was bad. It was a scene right out of a movie, when the tree caught from some old grass she was burning her eyes got real big. I was in the field over the fence and told her to go grab the hose at the nearby spigot. Of course that hose was about 25' too short so then she was trying to arch the water in but it was only barely hitting the tree so I yelled at her to go get another hose (there was no danger of anything else really going up in flame so I was just laughing and enjo... err I mean extremely concerned and offering helpful advice By the time she got everything together it had pretty much burned itself out. She now knows why I lay my hoses out in advance when burning. The tree was in a spot you could see when you came up the driveway so I left it there for about a month before I took it out

had a close call myself with a burn barrel this year. left the barrel burning some told the wife to keep an eye on it while I took a shower. She forgot. Caught the leaves next to carport was licking up the carport wall when I looked out the bathroom window. Got the hose on it quick. could have been a disaster. Think Im done with the burn barrel.

I have a burn pile and always cover it with a tarp to keep it dry
then after a good rain I uncover it and burn it when things are good and wet

works for me
