In 2016 we have 223 murder by gun across country for a population of 36,29M,

To be honness, I go often in rural part of US and I feel safe. Not because gun, because people are the same as here.

if you could remove all the gang related shootings, and murders from the statistics the murder rate by firearm in the US would be fairly low also. A lot of the murders in large US cities are gang related.

Your murder rates and our murder rates have the same name but are quite different.
Our government collects the data. If a gun was used is all that matters. Over 40% of US gun deaths are self inflected. If a cop shoots a bad guy it is still counted. If someone uses a gun in self defense it is counted.
The biggest contributor to those numbers are the big cities with restrictive gun laws.
