Opening hood on Foton 404

Wa11banger, that is my compression release lever. It does as Rich states. The emergency kill lever you talk of is the fuel shut off to the fuel pump used to shut the engine off as I understand. Good luck with the manuals.

Thanks guys for opening of the hood info. Actually, on her machine it's located just over the front left wheel (on the frame). Interestingly, the hood only opens about half way since it binds on the firewall and, believe it or not, that's the way it was built. Luckily, one fills the engine oil on the left side of the motor just forward of the oil filter so it turned out to be a relatively simple job.

Now to figure out where the hydraulic oil filter is located as well as assorted other issues.

AS far as I know, which isn't much, my 2000, 404 does not have a hydraulic oil filter. If it does, I have not come across it yet.

Mine has a hydraulic filter on the lower right frame rail basically under the step.. The housing is a fairly heavy duty metal tube roughly the size of a rattle paint can it has a tube coming out the side of it on one end and one going in the top of it on the other.. I happened to have bought a whole new assembly mistakenly just a couple of weeks ago. Mistakenly, because they come apart and you can replace just the filter inside which is all I wanted to do in the first place but I didnt know they come apart. I will take a pic this evening of the location and the spare so you have a good idea of what I tried to describe.

Ok so figured out how to attach pics finally. I was a little off on location, it is on the right hand side but just under my starter, not under the step. First pic is of it's location on the tractor. Second is of the new assembly not mounted.

Rick,

You're the best. Many thanks for the pix.
Next time I'm at my daughter's place, I'll check out her machine and see if there's a filter in the same place as yours. Any idea of the part #?

Big game for the Tide this weekend. I'm sure the LSU folks would like to see Saban get crushed. Doubt it's gonna happen !

The whole assembly is slightly overkill unless you have damaged it it is part number FT400.58X.040 and I found it at affordable for $89

The cartridge inside is only $29 and is part number FT400.58.040c

The thing opens like a thermos to replace the cartridge and can be done while its installed on the tractor. Make sure to have your drain bucket handy.

Yah its should be a good game but Saban aint going to put up with LSU's smash line and double runner plays. I dont think LSU is going to pull it off but it should be an excellent game this year. Unlike the championships two years ago... Tide 21 / LSU nada ")

Sounds like your tractor is about the same age as mine. The hydraulic filter is located as shown Wa11bangers photo the is a slight difference on my model. Located behind the filter and mounted on the same bolts is a plate that carries the power steering lines. If you completely remove both mounting bolts can be a bit of a struggle (to say the least) to get everything lined up to put the bolts back in.

Zonta and Rick ,

Her machine is a 2006 FT404. Hopefully, it's about the same as the ones you guys own.

After replacing the hydraulic cartridge was there a need to bleed the system or just replenish any oil lost during the process??

By the way, her hood (bonnet) when opened only goes up to about a 45 degree angle relative to the frame and if one needed to do any work on the topside of the engine (e.g.refill power steering fluid), it appears either the hood must be removed or you'd have to be a contortionist. On my Deere, the hood goes up to almost 90 degrees making service a snap.

I'm headed to her place on Sunday. Temps predicted to be below freezing so it should be sooooo much fun rooting around on the machine !! I'm getting pretty long in the tooth for that stuff.
