I am wondering if a John Deere 4520 will run a round baler and a haybine. I that will not work will the JD 4720 work? Any information is greatly needed and appreciated. Thanks!

A 7 or 9 foot haybine and a average sized round baler. Not huge and not small. Cutting your average hay crop some alfalfa, but mostly grass. Maybey 5 or so acers

A 4720 weights according to JD website Approx. Ship Wgt, lb. (kg) Open; Cab Open-3700 (1679); Cab-4345 (1971) and has PTO HP (kW) - Hydrostatic transmission 56.0 (41.8) per SAE so I would say a 4X4 rd baler would be a LOAD. A 4720 should be able to handle a 7 ft Haybine/Mo-Co

Jim's giving good advice.
Look at the specs for the JD 4x4 (smallest they make) baler:

HP requirements are important, but there are other factors that determine whether or not your tractor can really "handle" a piece of equipment. For example, pay attention to the weight of the baler. With a full roll of hay inside, the baler will weigh more than your tractor! Not a good situation.

I really chased this question around for 5-6 months before I just acknowledged that it would not be a wise investment to spend $45K (with loader and full hyd options) and have a tractor that was on the "lower edge" horsepower-wise to get the job done.

The better choice - IMO - is to work at the question with a tractor option that has a bit more horsepower than is necessary to get the job done. :thumbsup:

The haybine is the easy part. You can run one on a Ford 3000. The issue is the baler and I think you would be limited to the Vermer 5400 series or the 4x4 Massey. Check the new NH 4x4 baler for it's hp requirements. The 4510 should be fine. I was running my haybine on the McCormick GX50 which had 42 PTO hp and weighed about the same and had no problems.
