I was watching some videos on youtube and came across this one that shows a number of large dump trucks driving down a road with the dump bed fully raised. Of course, just about all of them either hit an overhead bridge or catch some overhead wires and rip them down. Coming from someone who has never driven a dump truck, I would have thought that there would be enough safety interlocks to prevent that from happening??? I know that sometimes they have to be able to drive forward at a slow speed to distribute the material in the bed at a fairly even rate across a large surface, but it seems like above a set speed, the interlock would kick in and limit the speed, plus give off an indicator (light or horn or both) to let the driver know the bed was still raised. Or, are these drivers just that stupid?? :confused2:

I have a 1 ton dump. There's no safety interlocks, but it's about as obvious as driving with the doors open.

For as often as it happens an interlocking system above 10 mph would be a great idea.

Wow that sh*t is unbelievable. I've seen guys pull away fast sometimes after dumping a load and the bed isn't fully down but be haulin down the highway like that!

My grandpa owned a trucking company from 1951 until his death last summer. I've heard of his drivers turning dump trucks over from driving too fast on curvy roads with full loads. I've also heard of one guy not chocking the tires when he parked the truck on a slope and it ending up in a lake. I've heard of them crashing, being hit by drunk drivers, and even being shot at. But I've never heard one story about a dump truck driver going down the highway with his bed up. Lol!

Having just got my CDL, I hope I don't end up the subject of one of those videos... green mistakes come in all sizes, some you can't hide!
