I understand Longs dealer distributing but really think it cost them alot more sales than they can imagine.

WR Longs lack of direct sales is the reason I didn't buy from them, nice looking unit but local dealer didn't seem all that interested in dealing with me and wanted to wait for there next delivery which would be 6-8 weeks.

Finally made my decision!
OBG-2 56" extra bar package.

I feel I received a good price from the dealer and great advise from all you guys, now all I have to do is wait.

Come on Nelson how about just a 2 week wait? I want to play...

I have had an OBG-2 for several years. I like that kind of design in a grapple...root rake sort of clamshell design. Mine is the 60" size. Reading on Nelson's site those newer grapples have replaceable teeth like on a toothbar. Mine is an older one without that feature. I think that is a nice feature most of the other grapples do not have.

I don't know what the extra bar package is. What is that?

Let's see a pic or two when you get it.

It's a small mini bar that attaches on the back :) They will add steel bar to the bottom and back. I will have a lot of stone in the future to move/work and I think it just makes it a better stone grapple/bucket. There is no one perfect product they are all very unique in design and use. This is my SUG.. sport utility grapple.

I have the WR Long 56" OBG-2 grapple on my MX4700 Kubota. I've been clearing trees with it and a chainsaw. Awesome piece of equipment. I've picked up and carried off huge hunks of oak and maple. My only complaints are I wish the jaws closed tighter for smaller logs, but the design won't allow it (that big tube on the bottom jaw that stiffens the grapple considerably won't let it close smaller). My other complaint, and I don't know if it should be directed at Long or my dealer, was that the hoses that came on it were way too long and not sleeved. I ended up pinching both hoses in the side of the FEL before getting new hoses made a foot shorter. I like the fact that the upper jaw is two part, each with its' own hydraulic unit. I think it conforms better to asymmetrical loads, like stumps, than a single upper jaw. Sometimes, too, you can only get the edge of the grapple in to grab something and the 2 part upper jaw helps. I can't in my wildest dreams imagine wearing this thing out. YMMV.

Regarding asymmetric objects and 2 vs 1 upper grapple jaw: I have one upper jaw and in five years have not met a stump or other object I could not securely grapple where two jaws would have helped. For example, the fat part of a stump is grabbed and clamped with the thinner part aiming forwards. That way the load is both balanced and secure. If you load a big stump sideways you have an imbalanced load which can be a problem for tractor balance and twisting force on the FEL.

I'd get two uppers if my main task was collecting random construction debris but logs, stumps, brush and rocks are very efficiently managed with a single.

I second Island's opinion. I have found it that way, too. One is better, and not as complicated, too.

And lighter and more maneuverable and cheaper!

I ended up going with the 60" (or 64" whatever it is) OBG 2 and very glad I did. I've used the grapple more in the last 6 months or so than I've ever used the bucket. Aside from crushed stone and dirt work I never have the bucket on anymore.
You'll find more uses for it than you ever thought you would, here are some pics of me using mine....
Oh and Nelson, I'm extremely happy with your product....but seriously, the guys have a great point about sales...
IT's worth the trouble of going through the dealer network though!
