Opinion on a Lincoln easy-mig welder 140 wire

Joe - I think you made a wise choice. I have a Lincoln 115v wire feed using argon with solid wire and it works for 90% of my stuff around the farm. I also have a Lincoln 225v AC/DC I can use for heavier stuff. Got both at auctions for good prices. The wire welder has a history. It was the home shop welder for the guy who started Polaris, Arctic Cat, and ASV. Bought it at his estate auction. He used it for fabricating new ideas for snowmobile slide rails among other things for trial before they built the final protos in aluminum. I figure if it was good enough for him and his billion dollar companies it was good enough for me.

I welded up my back blade cracks yesterday. Here is a picture of the breaks.

Here's a picture of the resulting repair. This was my very first weld ever. I did get pretty good penetration and after cleaning up the splatter, I didn't think it was too bad for a beginner. :cool2:

Wow. I can’t believe they used one eighth inch angle for the brace. That would be suitable for a kid size snow shovel.

Hmm. Post number 41.5 from yomax4 seems to be missing.

Seems to be. Wasn't he the one arguing about what was said in post #41?

Hardly. Seemed to me like a realistic appraisal of facts presented.

I've had posts go missing before. Unsure who makes that happen. In a nutshell the post said that by the time the Lincoln 115v welder came out, Ed Heteen had nothing to do with Arctic Cat design and prototype. He may have owned an SP100 welder but it wasn't used to design slide rail suspension. It's true that he was a founder of both Polaris ( with brother in law Dave Johnson ) and Arctic Cat though. I know both companies well.

That's awesome! I'm actually planning to get a Century FC90 flux core only wire machine for $200. I've been off and on wanting to try out welding for years. Having just bought a new tractor, I'm just not ready go big ticket on anything else but also don't want to wait any longer. $500 for a bottom line welder that uses gas, then the gas, then the gloves, helmet, magnets, brushes, wire, some steel to weld, etc, etc, - we're inching closer to the $thousand range. At the same time, I've got some real projects now that I could use a simple welder for. I might re-spend that $200.00 later if I decide I want a "real" welder. I'm willing to take that risk. This little machine has some very positive reviews and YouTube videos featuring it are very encouraging.

It's always a double edged knife with tools. On one hand, if you buy a crappy tool, it's wasted money because you won't use it (probably). On the other hand, I have a darn nice Laguna band saw and its highest purpose has been my wife using it to cut tiny pieces of balsa wood for her architecture class models. I have other expensive stuff sitting around that I bought on the precept that I'd be "all in" sooner or later...
