Opinion on Bush Hog 306

A local farmer is selling out and had placed several ads in the paper for the things he had left on the farm. One was for a 6' HD bushog. I'd been looking for a good medium to heavy duty bush hog for several months and thought I'd check it out. It turned out to be a Bush Hog 306 model with the optional slip clutch and Cat II/III hitch /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. It's been out in the weather, but had almost no rust (just the paint was dull). The only thing that was wrong was that the front deflector was gone and there was a softball sized dent toward the front of the deck. He wouldn't go under a $1K for it, but its something I've been looking for so I left a $100 deposit till the weekend. Does $1K seem like a decent deal??? The only thing I can compare it to is the 6' HD Kodiak which has the same specs as the Bush Hog, but dual wheels, and it was $1500.

Well, if it doesn't have any chains on it, then regular list is $4,136.00. Of course we usually sell them new for around $2,975.00...this again is without any chains and I never order the 300 series mowers without chains. So I think you are getting a great deal.

It sounds like a good deal to me, too. I just paid $1700 for a new BH 285, a 5 ft medium duty unit with chains and slip clutch. That included tax and delivery to my farm, about 35 miles. I don't think you will ever regret getting a heavier duty mower. The lighter, cheaper ones just don't hold up if you are going to cut some 1 in. to 3 in. brush.

Gamble, does that price I paid sound in line?
